Andy Katz is about as reliable for conference realignment news as a cat. Doesn't know anything but will keep meowing and hope that the noise it makes will eventually lead to it being fed.

How do you fall for this? I keep asking people on message boards and in other places that state the big east is now dead, "How so?"
And i ask you, and SVP and whoever else, how is it dead? Where is Louisville dead? Where is Cincy going? Where is USF going? how bout UConn and Rutgers?
This notion is stupid, its not dead!! People keep saying this because they hear it on ESPN.
As I posted on the CUSA board (as part of a longer post, the other part of which isn't really relevant to our discussion here):
There is no incentive for the Big East to go into merger talks with CUSA and MWC. They currently have a seat at the table. That means that they can take whoever they want, without having to accept whoever they don't want. This makes their bargaining position for 2014 stronger than that of the 28-to-32-team alliance that would consist of three conferences.
exactly. why would they even consider a merger? they're at the grown up table already, even if the legs to the chair are weak, they're there. I interpret this to mean that CUSA & MWC KNOW that SMU, UH, UCF, Boise, AFA all leaving would mean that even if they did have a playoff, they won't get a BCS bid.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

CUSA and MWC teams are just scared to face the fact that they're about to be put in the cat crap filled sandbox with the other drooling kids...
Which, up until a month or so ago, is exactly how we all felt.
