What is next step in realignment?
Marinatto waited to long to get the invites out... So looks like the Big East gig is done... Big 12 continues to make stupid moves... No, I don't think WVU is a bad football school, in fact I find them to be a very attractive College Football property... The only problem is when the Big 12 goes back to 12, Louisville and Cincy will be invited, which I think they are no better than Houston or SMU as a football property... and basketball fans that will say that Louisville and Cincy have better basketball than SMU and Houston, guess what? your right...but who the hell cares... Football=Money... So SMU is probably headed to the new conference/league that will soon be known as the"D1-A.5" league or the "D1 FBS w/playoff w/no shot in hell for a BCS bid League"... Either way you look at it, it is a more noticeable second tier... So whats next??? Irrelevancy...

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response....
Seriously, the Big East gig is done? Step away from the edge, SMT II.

Dude, back away from the Ledge.
1. Do you really think Mariannato is just sitting back having a beer? Just letting is world crumble? There is obviously something holding this up. I am sure invites (unofficially) went out, they won't be announced until they are accepted. I am sure the schools are waiting to make sure only WV leaves in order to accept.
2. WVU leaving isnt a surprise and isnt that big of a blow
3. UT/OU dont want 12 teams/championship game (pusses)

Some people simply forget just how bad it was...

SMU getting the 13th invite to, either the Big 10 or Pac 12.

I may be on the ledge, but I haven't lost my mind... Big 10 or Pac 12???
Re: What is next step in realignment?
The "SMU invite to SEC/PAC/B1G/Big XII" shtick stopped being funny 2+ weeks ago...
Re: What is next step in realignment?
Probably gonna be that 32 team BIGMWCUSA league, but they need to trim alot of dead weight teams.

Re: What is next step in realignment?
You cannot trim dead weight. That's why any bullsh*t merger or mega conference is a waste of oxygen and probably Bannowski posturing and auditioning for the Big 12 commish position once Neinas is done gutting other conferences and driving a wedge farther between AQ/Non-AQ.
Either create a new conference, or join an existing one.

Re: What is next step in realignment?
If the BE and others fall through I'm in favor of reforming a SWC of Texas and border state teams. SMU, Rice, Houston, Tulane, Tulsa, UTEP, New Mexico, UT San Antonio, (maybe even North Texas). You'd have teams in the biggest cities in the area (except perhaps OK City which doesn't come close to the appeal of Tulsa). You'd have lots of natural rivalries. I'd rather play these teams then ECU and UCF, etc. The winner could schedule an annual bowl game (if not an on going game like the Cotton Bowl we could form one like the SW bowl at Ford Stadium) with a SEC or PAC12 team, etc. If say SMU had an undefeated season we could dispute everyone else and call SMU the BEST TEAM IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL. I say GARY PATTERSON these other schools. SMU is going to get better, Houston is going to get better, Tulsa will. I think we can start kicking the PATTERSON out of some of these big schools on non conference games and have a better conference than anyone else. Does anyone care to watch Texas play Kansas or West Virginia? In the same vain, I would rather see SMU play San Antonio then ECU. In fact, I'm much more likely to go to San Antonio to see a game then where ever ECU is. Just an idea.

Re: What is next step in realignment?
How noble of you. Let's take literally all of the dead weight with us and save the other schools that want to play with the big kids.
Re: What is next step in realignment?
Hey Stlhockeyguy02, I want to go to the SEC, how about you? However, as I said above, if that stuff falls through I would rather see a game in San Antonio then go to ECU (wherever that is) I'm sure you know where ECU is and want to travel there. I don't. You know how to get us into a big conference I'll dance at your wedding. However, if not, we are playing almost all of the above teams right now. So, why go to ECU?

I stopped reading after you said Tulsa has a much bigger appeal than OKC.
