D Line next year

Post by ClickClack »

Let's assume Christian Holloway and Moreland are here next year...moreland starts at OLB from day 1 opposite JG. Should allow Stephon Sanders to play d-line. I think Holloway Starts at DE from day one with Pittman at the NT. Unfortunatley, I think Margus Will never be more than a pass rushing specalist...who play's the other DE spot? A rotation of Sanders, Wood and Barnes? Barnes is probably at 240 lbs or so right now...needs to get up to the 265-270 range.

Anyone hear anything on the progress of Jarett Spencer? He is a big athletic body with the prototypical frame for a 3-4 d end...just needs time to grow.

Sure would be nice to get a stud D end recruit like Taiwan Johnson or McGee that can jump in the rotation as a true frosh.

beyond the DL question, next year will give us an indication how well JJ's staff has recruited vs the former regime. We will be young on both fronts. How much will it show? Have to assume we will start slow and hopefully be much improved as the year goes by...but it's too early to be getting ahead of ourselves like this.

These seniors can still go out with the best record SMU has posted since the death penalty

8-4 this year is the best they can do. Go to a bowl and maybe go 9-4 or 8-5. If we play a team with a hurry up offense, we lose and go 8-5, same as 2009.

get ahead of ourselves? I think this season has gone right on schedule so far. this is just a question to talk football and to get away from all the ridiculous crap that has infested this board about June Jones not being a good coach, the team being terrible and wanting a new QB. Nothing to do with my thoughts on this years team

See I expected us to beat TCU. I didn't think we had a shot to beat USM on the road. Thought Tulsa was a 50/50 game on the road..but thought we would have a better showing for sure.

It is one thing to be the underdog for years and another to be 5-1 for the first time in 20 years with a target on your back they just need to get used to being a good team week in and week out

Moreland would really help this defense. We need more good linebackers. The lb position is really hurting us this year.

You are putting a lot of expectations on 2 kids that aren't even on campus yet. Sanders will also need to bulk up to play DE in our 3-4.

Yes, sanders will def need to bulk up to play end in the 3-4. I am not putting expectations on them, I am just speaking to how good they are, they start from day one if they come to SMU.

Bold statement to say both of them start from day 1. How do we really know how good they are? Only thing we have seen is some choppy HS game tape. Who knows what competition they were playing against.

OMG HE HAS 4 STARS NEXT TO HIS NAME! We would have beat Tulsa if he were playing.

No doubt they have talent, and will be players. I think it's foolish to anoint them starters before they even step on campus. Also says something about our recruiting the previous years.

Did Holloway Have four stars next to his name? Didn't think so. I will trust the coach who said (not publicly or in an interview) that they would both start from day 1.

Your right, ponyplaye4, im soooo sorry.I didn't realize your skills as a talent evaluator! You definetley know more than a coach on the staff who said they would start when they come on campus!
