That article is sub only- I hope someone will post the content of it. I can not believe that JJ would make a comment like that. If so, I am really disappointed in his attitude and arrogance.
It's all there when I click on it. But, here you go:
The Mustangs, who play two C-USA games and nonconference Northwestern State between A&M and TCU, have yet to secure a statement-making nonconference win in Jones’ tenure, other than perhapsthe 2009 Hawaii Bowl win over Nevada that ended a quarter century of bowl futility.
In fact, SMU is 3-9 in nonconference play under Jones, with just one win against a Football Bowl Subdivision team - last season over Washington State. As the program continues to grow, does it need a signature win outside C-USA for validity, and is this the year the program is finally ready to do it?
"I don’t have to do anything to prove anything to anybody. We just have to play hard," Jones said. "And the wins will come.
"If you ever want to be a great football team, you have to win outside the conference and you’ve got to win on the road. That’s not easy to do."
That quote coupled with my two meetings with him pretty much told me all I needed to know about him.
I just don't believe he ever came here for the right reasons. He saw $$, knew that we were desperate because that search was on the brink of imploding and so he leveraged it to get everything he wanted with no questions asked. There's no accountability from him to anyone at this school, IMO.
He can pretty much get away with whatever he wants and whine until we come running to solve his latest DQ crisis.
I don't think he's loyal to SMU at all -- and THAT'S my biggest problem with him. I've said I'm not loyal to any coach because it's too transient an industry but at least look the part of being someone who is interested in being at SMU rather than killing time here. He doesn't even bother doing that.
Whatever. People just want to drum [deleted] up, stir the pot. The fact is the June Jones is the best thing to happen to this university in a long, long time. We truly do not deserve him. He's done his part. Let's do ours by supporting him and by coming to a damned game.

We definitely deserve him - that is crazy talk. This is a great job, great university and city and we pay him well so no need to have a suck up attitude about him.
I think he has done a great job rebuilding us, but frankly i think we were poised for that as soon as the recruiting hand cuffs came off. He is stuck in his gimmicky offense that can get us in a bowl almost every year in CUSA - but wont work in any other conference long term (including B.E.). It would be great if he would continue tweaking and improving his offense instead of being so stubborn, and it would be great if someone on his staff was in charge of inspiring the team - there is a role for that in college football.
It would also be great if he bought into SMU a bit more - which is the normal thing any coach does when he takes on what is basically a leadership role. He would get more support if he showed more connection and emotion.
Everyone has things they need to work on in their job - so hopefully he sees some things he can improve and will work on them.

you mean like maybe wearing a red or blue shirt every now and then?
gostangs, SMU's deserving attitude is a huge part of the problem that June Jones and Steve Orsini are trying to fix. Fact is we're a small elite-in-our-own-minds private school competing with the worlds' best known football program in the Dallas Cowboys, i.e. virtually unknown outside the Bubble. We think we're all that with our exclusive entitled, country club, bloody mary attitudes and, truth be known, many of the powers the be would just rather not have the riff raff from Mesquite and Oak Cliff attend our games. Hell, we look down on Plano, one of the richest communities in the US.
No, we don't deserve June Jones. Not until we change our stupid, entitled, loser attitudes.
