VIDEO: Stephon Sanders

Post by PonyPride »

Freshman linebacker Stephon Sanders visited with PonyFans.com to discuss his transition from high school defensive end to college linebacker, how the Rice offense changed when the Owls were heading into the stiff wind that blew through Ford Stadium Saturday afternoon and how his pass rush affected Rice quarterback Nick Fanuzzi.

Enjoy!

That's what jumped out at me, too -- the smile. He buried that guy a few times, and clearly enjoyed it.

I don't think it's letting any secrets out to mention that one of the plays shown at June's luncheon today was that play when Rice left Sanders unblocked. When he raced at Fanuzzi, Rice Tyler Smith tried to get in his way ... and was made into a human speed bump by Sanders, who ran right over/through him on his way to Fanuzzi. Coach Mason pointed out that Sanders "is a freshman doing that to a senior (Smith)." Mason sounded ecstatic about how good Sanders can become.

It's hard to not be optimistic about him. Very impressive young man (on the field and in this interview).
"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."
...
"Hit it."
