When the Cali pipeline dries up...
THIS situation is exactly what most ponyfans have been worried about. All of our recruiting eggs are in one basket - Cali and Coach Klemm. Normally, if your HC leaves, you can replace him and you still have solid recruiting ties with local and state high schools that you can lean on. Unfortunately, if JJ and Klemm leave for ASU, we have just wasted the last 4 years cultivating a pipeline in Cali that will basically dry up.
Count me as a FORMER JJ fan. He has lost me with this bs during our biggest recruiting weekend in years. Even if it is just a smokescreen for him to get raises for asst coaches, I have soured on him because of the timing and publicity of this bullshiz.
I get it...coaches come and go, leave unexpectedly for more $, bigger conference ties, etc. Just look at Sumlin, who probably signed a TAMU deal before the USM game. But I thought JJ was different. Now I see that he is just the same as Rich Rod, Petrino, and every other slimeball coach that leaves his team high and dry.
This was shaping up to be possibly the best recruiting class since the slush fund days. So the timing really sucks. But I trust in SO, RGT, and CofC to get a quality hire of JJ leaves. But we will lose all of the recruiting momentum that we have built up, and that would be a shame.
JJ, GO LEI YOURSELF

Don't automatically count on Klemm leaving with Jones. I hear he has other aspirations.

Any new coach would have to start over.

this will be a huge setback for recruiting - lose Marks, Lewis, Printz, Gilbert, etc.

question is, do you try to salvage this class by keeping mason/klemm (and who knows if they would stay sans JJ) or do you go after a big name guy and possibly lose most of the 2012 class.
Plenty of coaches out there, and we have the $. This time, I'd really like some TEXAS ties in there somewhere.

Agree grab klemm mason and a Texas offensive coordinator. Klemm has a ton of connections, let him bein in some young blood.
This buys us a couple years and keep recruiting class. Too much competition this year. Give him a shot and see how it goes.
If mason doesn't want to take role get Hawaii coach who is going to get fired. He has Texas ties as well

Whatever.
We had no problem using the money to get the guy - let's not throw stones.
Let the guy fight for his assistants, or talk, or whatever. If he wants out, he wants out. If he doesn't, let him do what he thinks is best. We continue to improve.

We need to recruit the "state" of the metroplex like Miami used to do with Dade county.
Re: When the Cali pipeline dries up...
Need to retain Klemm for the purpose of salvaging the recruiting class. AK is definitely short on experience, but his recruiting prowess deserves special consideration. Have a short plan with Klemm and see what he can do, if not move on in short order.

Klemm has been a coach for like 2 years... Personally I think our OL has not been that impressive with all seniors
