Anyone else glad June Jones is still the coach?

Post by jalgeri »

I sure am. I understand all of the frustration with this fiasco. But I also understand the predicament the SMU football program was in before June Jones arrived. We were a horrible football team before him and now we are going to our third straight bowl game. I know we were all expecting a much better record this season but I will take 7-5 any day over 1-11 and other horrible seasons like that before him. JJ still gives us the best chance to be a successful football program.

I disagree.

He has made it clear he is a lame duck and has f*cked up this recruiting class. Big problems.

I'm glad because i wantthis recruiting class and I don'tlikethe coaching options out there at the moment, after next year if there are decent coaching options fire him (and I've been one of the most consistant jones defenders on PF)

meh. he stays and keeps the recruiting class, great. he goes, we can still hire a good coach now.

think we can't get a good coach if the CoC is willing to make them the highest paid coach in the Big East? Only school in the easiest BCS conference that is in the biggest recruiting hotbed in the country and is paying more than a lot of BCS schools are paying.....I think someone would take that job.

I am happy, but have my reservations about it. My concerns are whether he has lost the current team, whether he will be able to recruit well considering what has transpired, and I hope we can all come together to support the team. Whether you like it or not he is our coach going forward and in the interest of SMU I hope our fans and alums can continue to support the team. At the end of the day Klemm is a great salesman and I think he will be able to patch things up with our recruits.

It depends on what he does next, as in starting tomorrow. If he rolls up his sleeves and dedicates himself to doing the job the best he can, he has my support. ASU or UCLA would have been good destinations for Jones personally and professionally, we have to see that. If he applies for Kansas now though, get the H out.

I think that any coach will use us as a stepping stone for a better job if they are successful. Unfortunately that is college football today. Does anyone here think Kevin Sumlin will be at Houston forever? Don't forget JJ left Hawaii to come here and he always loved the islands. He left because he thought SMU was a better job.

Yes, I am also. I believe that when the facts come out, he had Orsini's blessing to look and handled it in a professional manner. On the outside the timing could not have been worse. As to recruiting for ASU, I don't know that that happened. The one recruit that committed to the ASU program may have had admittance problems or simply a numbers problem at his position and was told of the situation and decided to look elsewhere. When the ASU talk got going he committed--but to whom?

If June can recognize the loyalty that he has been shown by the school, maybe, finally maybe, he can be happy here--I never felt he was fully committed once he got here and had some remorse leaving U of H.

The fans didn't show up for the UCF game this year--I was terribly disappointed. But, he has to be patient. We are now admitting students that applied to SMU because of our athletic programs and the enthusiasm will begin to grow. But, quite honestly, this year, our offense, save for the TCU game was boring and frustrating to watch. Put up numbers, win or lose like the TCU game or the Hawaii Bowl and people will come--June that is why I still want you here.

I'm glad he's back.....better than SMU scrambling around trying to find a coach right now......if SMU can actually find a better coach next year, then fire him at that time.....but in the meanwhile be glad he is back and hope the program can keep moving forward....

Only if Klemm sticks around, AK bails and June loses what little value he has to us.
