The Big (Unanswered, I think) Question
Did Jones use SMU resources ($, cell phone, computers) to recruit for ASU? If so, he should be gone, however it happens. If not, then keeping him is no harm, no foul.
Not sure if there is any hard fact here, but circumstantial evidence suggests to me he should go. I mean, if he's getting ready to leave for ASU, and talking to recruits at the same time, who really thinks he made a run to best buy on his own dime to do that.

Okay, but whose cell phone did he use when he sent it? SMU's?

Re: The Big (Unanswered, I think) Question
Let's just assume the best of intentions on the part of June for a moment, a vice that I certainly have no problem indulging. It was hardly a secret that June was expected to go to ASU. Why must we assume June called them and asked them to switch? Why isn't it a reasonable possibility that the recruits just wanted to follow the coach?
There are a lot of ugly assumptions being made out there. We got our feelings hurt he wanted to leave us. That's natural. But assuming the worst does no one any good, does it?

Re: The Big (Unanswered, I think) Question
Again, circumstantial evidence is still evidence. You say it was not a secret that he was looking at going to ASU and yet this all hit over the last several days, and by all accounts this past weekend was a big recruiting weekend for Jones (how we know this is a mystery to me, apparently subscribers to that pay site have more info than we know here). These are facts which have been report in media outlets, not just here. I disagree that it is an "assumption" to merely put two and two together.
Since you are in an indulging mood, let me ask you to indulge my thoughts for a minute. If Jones (or his cohorts in recuriting) flew to a recruit on SMU's dime and told him that he was going to ASU and the recruit should consider that if he really wanted to play for Jones, or if he texted the same message on an SMU-issued cell phone or email the same on an SMU computer, do you think that is appropriate behavior by Jones? Would you not agree that some disdain in response is also appropriate?

Re: The Big (Unanswered, I think) Question
Doesn't have to be on an SMU cell phone or computer either. If he was actively recruiting for another school while still employed by SMU, that is enough.
And that is not saying he doesn't have the right to try to retain the recruits he wants and take them to his new team. He just has to wait until he has actually resigned his post at SMU before he starts recruiting them to follow him elsewhere. Until then, he is an SMU employee and should only be recruiting to SMU.

If you *assume* he's not honorable, yes, guys.
Guess I just like to assume the best about people and then work back from there.

There can be no "moving forward" with Jones at SMU. Just marking time, grinning and bearing it.

Don't hold your breath. All of the positions out there have not been filled. Could still be a bumpy ride.

Actually, it's not really an assumption so much as a hypothetical. And one that is probably pretty accurate based on the circumstantial evidence.
So just for the record, your answer, indulging my hypothetical, is yes, Jones would be acting inapppropriately, and yes, disdain for his actions is an appropriate response.
