UCLA

Post by RyanSMU98 »

I really hate to stir this pot up, but feel the question has to be asked: UCLA is reportedly offering as much as $4MM for a coach and can't seem to get anyone to take it. What are the odds we go through this whole crap again in a few weeks and find out he's LA-bound? I'm hearing Tressel's name mentioned out there (sweater-vests in LA would be a helluva fashion statement), but given the class and the obvious leanings of the staff, was ASU just round one? And if there is a round two, does Jones have the decency to wait til after the bowl to do it? Just can't gauge his moral compass on this one (or if he even has one at this point). What do those more in the know than I think?

Of course this isn't over. And it would be best for all involved if he got the gig.

This one year and out thing is a terrible idea.

I would imagine UCLA boosters wouldn't been too keen on paying for AZ State's leftovers

If they're gonna pay $4m/year, they can do better than JJ

Jim Mora Jr is going to get the ucla job...75 25....

We will be fine...12 months and new guy....hopefully AK

think of the marketing...we could have the coaching staff be the a-team...black panel van...it would be sweet, kind of HP scot like...

UCLA

Klemm is a great recruiter, to JJs system. No one has a clue regarding his coaching ability. Our OL was supposed to be top notch with all returning starters and I don't think they lived up to the hype. That's coaching.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Klemm is the man, and any talk otherwise is heresy.

The best qualified HC candidate out there, that we can get.

I am not sure that they didn't play over their head (abilities)...that's coaching. Look back on their recruiting and the lack of interest by major schools. If you are talking Texas, with all their top recruits, you would be right about coaching.

I dont disagree, its concerning but we have 12 months to basically give him a test run...what is the risk? We go 6-6 but get 2 great recruiting classes?

Im looking for the least risky solution...If he sucks in 2 years we go and get our guy, but we will have more money and better players either way...

Pull Klemm aside, tell him we want to groom him to be a head coach, make him our OC and start pushing June to get guys around the country that Klemm likes on his staff. True or not, we better start acting like he will be a head coach.

Not defending or criticising Klemm, but were most of the O-line starters recruited by Bennett or JJ. It would have been JJ's first year of recruiting which was all of three weeks.

Name me a head coach (that we would all take at SMU) that had no coordinator experience (even at the high school level)?

He's a great recruiter. And might have all the makings for being an excellent head coach. You can groom him. You can support him. It doesn't mean he is ready next year or the year after. It could be 5 years down the road when he is actually ready. Stop trying to force a situation.

Get all the good recruiters and staff lock down. Have them renegotiate contracts or whatever. Get what is valuable with this group before they hit the road. JJ was smart for him to make everything mobile and pick up everything to make him more valuable. Im hoping with the fallout with ASU, JJs reputation has been tarnished to the point where we control when he leaves. We just need him to stick around and be "happy" till we get a replacement or some foreseeable plan. If he takes everything and leaves, we wont recover for at least 4 years.
