UCLA Rivals : Klemm

Check out that front page. Seriously not cool. I am a Klemm follower on twitter and he is re-tweeting tons of love from UCLA and ASU. He will be asked to join each staff once they name a head coach.
How do we keep him? Can we?

Agree, but I'd rather have any other coach from this staff go (including JJ) before Klemm.

Well, if we believe that Larry Porter and Turner Gill are considered very good recruiters and Gill is from this area, would they possible replacements should Klemm leave?

Gill would be fantastic...just not sure he'd fall that far after being HC at Kansas. There are a lot of job openings right now. Porter would be easier to get IMHO.
I just don't know the value of keeping JJ if Klemm isn't part of the deal. It may be moot as we likely do not want to pay JJ's buyout.

Re: UCLA Rivals : Klemm
If Jim Mora Jr isn't hired by UCLA then UCLA could take JJ off our hands. But then Klemm would probably be gone with him because that is his home.

Re: UCLA Rivals : Klemm
With all the stuff Klemm is putting out there from ASU & UCLA, he may be gone regardless. He was well known in the recruiting world already...but when JJ shined the big light on our staff by trying for the ASU job, a lot more people took notice of Klemm. Booster-type people from UCLA/ASU that want him at their school.
If he wants to go back home, he's gone. If it's about the $, I'd guess we can offer him more money than other school (just a guess, but I think CoC knows how valuable he is to our program). If he wants to stay with JJ and continue what he has built, he stays at SMU.

Do you think we could we win a bidding war with UCLA and ASU without the BE money at this point? Just asking.

Re: UCLA Rivals : Klemm
The wide concern from those who track this is that we do a subpar job making inroads in this state. I became convinced that this staff was indeed blowing it in Texas after the May evaluation period. I gave the staff the benefit of the doubt and said wait until then. Thenn the laziness showed itself to be true.
All you have to do is look at Richardson Pearce's Corey Coleman who is a dynamic playmaker. And we don't even make a serious run at him? I wouldn't have had a problem if he committed to Baylor over us had we put our best foot forward. What's awful is that it appeared we didn't even do that.
So here's the issue. Your best recruiter is making hay in Southern California. It looks like he's trying to revamp the efforts in Texas, although there is a long way to go following that reported come-to-jesus meeting with the other coaches. Southern California -- and that's a great state to recruit don't misunderstand -- is not where a major focus should be IMO.
You need to really grind through Texas and sell the program. If there are barriers and stereotypes, you have to find the means to overcome them.
If your best recruiter leaves without really establishing the grass roots campaign in Texas, then the program is left without a chair when the music stops.
If Klemm leaves but really concentrated and been successful getting us involved with more Texas kids, the ties would have been left behind.
Should he leave, his successor really has to pick it up with this state.
If Klemm stays, then he has to commit to making the rounds from Laredo to Amarillo. I know Klemm can sell LA kids about getting out of town and starting a new life. He can also do it in the goldmine known as Houston.

He was just getting started. It wasn't his assigned territory.
Seven Meyers was his guy and he had more on the way

Mitch, if we have a solid recruiter in Texas and he leaves it would have the same effect because a new recruiter would have to come in a recruit the area. Just like any other school. Reinebold and Odum have both been recruiting Houston since they have been here.
