San Diego State will join the Big West in all sports effective in 2013 after a vote of Big West officials Thursday.
Only one school voted against the Aztecs' request to place their entire athletic program, except for its Big East-bound football team, in the conference it left in 1975.
Sources said the conference debated whether San Diego State, which has a $35 million athletic budget, was a good fit considering that more than half of the teams have budgets of $16 million or less and the Aztecs will be sharing in BCS and major TV rights benefits once they join the Big East.
The final decision came down to the Aztecs being a good fit in the conference which is currently an all-California league of nine, and having good relationships with Big West schools. Hawaii joins the conference effective next season for all sports except football.

Adding Hawaii would in theory allow for non-overlapping games in 5 time zones.

If BE expands, the team will probably be driveable from Boise. Hopefully new tv contract and a depleted MWC will wake up AFA to switch over to the BE.
SMU to blackball Hawaii with June having to be the one to personally say "no".

That eliminates everyone but Idaho and maybe Nevada. Even AFA is 900 miles from Boise.

I imagine they perpetually email ECU "done deal, next week" once a week just so they are not constantly spammed by ECU trying to get in.

Too bad UTSA is just now starting a football program. I think they have a lot to offer a conference in the future, with the exception of the orange turf.

They will be one to watch and see if they last past just a novelty for a few years, that city will keep growing as will the school.

Tulsa is mentioned. I wonder what KTP thinks about that?

Will KTP change his tune on the BE - Tulsa was mentioned?
