Strange situation at SMU

Earlier this week it looked almost certain that SMU coach June Jones was headed to Arizona State until an awkward, last-minute decision to seemingly pull his offer occurred in Tempe and now both sides are back to square one.

Arizona State is still without a coach during these crucial recruiting weekends and Jones is back at SMU - but possibly seen as a coach that wanted to head elsewhere. It makes for a strange situation on all sides.

What makes things interesting is that some members of SMU's recruiting class openly supported Jones' decision to go to Arizona State in the belief that they'd be able to follow him to Tempe and play in the Pac-12.

Four-star wide receiver Gabriel Marks made it clear that he'd prefer to follow Jones because he wanted to play in Jones' offense and be coached by him. Three-star all-purpose back Robert Lewis is taking other visits. Harper, who committed last weekend, is expected at Cal this weekend. Three-star linebacker Khalil Pettway has de-committed.

Now that Jones appears to be staying at SMU there is a good chance that the turmoil will settle down and with assistant coach Adrian Klemm's help - Klemm has done a magnificent job recruiting California talent to SMU - the Mustangs could salvage a lot of the best players in this class.

Earlier this week it looked as though SMU's class could implode. After a strange and unforgettable few days, things look to be settling. And that's only good news for SMU fans.

That's what I thought. I am glad things are settling down. Now let's add some more quality recruits and go win some more games!

Thanks for the info!
