Question on Recruiting Ethics

Post by ponyboy »

You're a recruit about to visit a school. Your visit has been set, reservations made, and you're all ready to go.

Turns out that the head coach is considering an offer to coach at a different school. What would you expect from that coach?

1) Cancel the visit with an apology and an explanation that you, the coach, are looking at another opportunity right now

2) Keep the visit, but explain the other head coaching opportunity so it's all out in the open

3) Keep your mouth shut about the possibility that you might be coaching at another school

First of all, the phrase "recruiting ethics" is probably an oxymoron in this day and age. But if I am the coach and I am far enough along in "talks" with the other school that I am negotiating the last few contract terms, as was widely reported, I wiould choose option 1, with the caveat that I will recontact him as soon as I am settled in my new job.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

You STFU until the ink is dry so you don't have a situation like June Jones has found himself in now.

What would Brian Boitano do if he were here right now? He'd probably kick an [deleted] or two. That's what Brian Boitano'd do.
