Fact Check

Post by Stallion »

apparently there is someone spreading a bunch of BS (you can't trust what you hear out of a microphone from a Head Coach) around the SMU community

Adrian Klemm came to SMU as a part-time Coach in 2008 which is a position that doesn't allow off campus recruiting

He became full time Coach sometime after the death of Frank Gansz on April 28, 2009. McNight was moved from OLM Coach to Special Teams Coach to make room for Klemm according to smumustangs.com

Therefore by the time Klemm became a Coach capable of recruiting the biggest offer period for the Class of 2010 had already passed. Class of 2010 would be either Sophomores or Redshirt Freshman this year. Again he wasn't even a Coach that could recruit until well after the recruiting season began.

The only full Class that Klemm was a recruiting Coach would have been the 2011 Class which would be Freshman this year. Of course several redshirted.

Just setting the record straight.

Thanks, that has not been mentioned at all in the other thread where people are talking about the overhead. Not sure how everyone missed it.

Fact Check

Post by smusic 00 »

Thanks for laying it out. I will refer back to Wuba's point, though, that JJ may not have been trying to downplay AK as much as show that we have a talented group of kids recruited by other coaches, too. I sort of feel he thinks it is unfair of us to assume that it is a one man show on the recruiting trail. Now I don't follow it that closely, so I'll leave it to others to point out how absurd they think JJ is in trying to show that his other coaches can evaluate talent.

Further fact check-Klemm wasn't hired until about August 7, 2009-about 7 months into the recruiting season for 2010 Class. See article for date

remember also that because of the NCAA recruiting Calander there is very little off-campus recruiting except for scouting at games after the fall practices begin-further limiting the actual recruiting period had to work with. Scouting and initial contact period had already ended.

It is fair to say that AK is not the only coach who can recruit but he was doing a heck of a job.

Recruiting Texas is also another matter. It is what we need now and maybe this change is all for the best if we can get someone in here with solid TX recruiting ties. We are winning now (ish) and that will open doors for us in Texas.

OK I checked August 1-through about the end of November is Quiet Period also known as Evaluation Period ie off campus scouting. But Contact Period doesn't begin until very late November when you can actually sit down with families and recruit. So Klemm did not have a Contact Period until about 10 months into the 2011 Class recruiting season.

I am trying to figure out, who or what are you arguing against? Everyone knows that showing a list of recruiters for this year's starters is no way to judge Klemm's recruiting ability.

Nice fact check Stallion. For a minute there I was worried that losing Klemm would mean our recruiting success would taper off. Glad to hear that Sheldon has cleared this mystery up.

Didn't Klemm have a couple of guys in the 2011 class that never even made it to SMU?

I'm telling you that June Jones fed the alumni of this school a load of crap by posting a 2 deep analysis. I bet there are about 5 SMU fans smart enough to point out the facts about how the recruiting season works in conjunction with his 2 Deep Roster.

Excellent points, Stallion. You've defeated the MSJ that AK is our only recruiter. Disputed issues of material fact abound.
