Our Third win over an AQ program...ever

Post by CalallenStang »

AQ came into existence in 1998. Since then, we have only had three wins over teams in an AQ conference:

Kansas 2000
Washington State 2010
and Pittsburgh yesterday

You're right. I'm pretty sure I'm still under the influence.

I'll chalk it up to confusion since they were ranked.

To note TCU is the only ranked team we've beaten. Slowly but surely we're on our way to being a good football program

Wins over TCU were certainly more impressive than the AQ victories.

Agree that wins over ranked teams (TCU) are more impressive than just wins over AQ teams. I'm sure there are current AQ teams that haven't knocked off a top 25 team in the past few years.

To the sophisticated sports fan, of course, but to the casual fan, beating TCU is just beating a "good mid-major"

It's like beating VCU and Wake Forest in basketball. The VCU win is better but the casual fan will say that the Wake Forest win is better because Wake is in the ACC

Neutral site against a Pitt team in disarray. Not to be a downer, but it played out exactly how it should have yesterday. The TCU win was more of a pleasant surprise...

You have to break many glass ceilings when trying to build yourself from a consistent loser into a winner. That would include such things as breaking long losing streaks, winning on the road, and beating an AQ on the road, all 3 of which we did at Legion Field in Birmingham.
