UCLA dismisses 3 for team violations
Per ESPN, "UCLA has dismissed tight end Raymond Nelson and defensive lineman Wesley Flowers for a violation of team rules while defensive back Randall Carroll was dismissed for failing to meet academic requirements, the school announced Monday after new coach Jim Mora met with the team for the first time.
"At UCLA, we have a high set of standards that we expect every student-athlete to adhere to," Mora said in a statement issued by the school. "Unfortunately, these three gentlemen choose not to do so."
Nelson, a reserve freshman, appeared in eight games for UCLA this season, but did not have a catch. He is the younger brother of Reeves Nelson, an all-conference forward for the Bruins' basketball team who was dismissed by coach Ben Howland earlier this season for conduct issues.
Carroll is a receiver who had three catches for 34 yards before making the switch to defensive back in the middle of this season. He was used mostly in third down situations as a defensive back. One of the fastest players on the team, Carroll was the California high school state champion in the 100 and 200 meters in 2008. He finished sixth in the 100 in the Pac-10 championships last year.
Carroll's career at UCLA was filled with turmoil. He was among four players suspended for a game in 2009 for a violation of team rules and caused a stir later that year with a Twitter message disparaging then-offensive coordinator Norm Chow. This season, he was among six UCLA players suspended after participating in a benches-clearing brawl Oct. 20 against Arizona."
Good job Bruins. I wonder if they would have "dismissed" them if they were actually starting players.

Re: UCLA dismisses 3 for team violations
Taking a page from junes book his first year here
Re: UCLA dismisses 3 for team violations
it happens EVERYWHERE. get over it people. Klemm's gone.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: UCLA dismisses 3 for team violations
I suppose we will see a couple of tweets this week from Lewis and Palacio saying: "UCLA bound."
2015 INDIANAPOLIS OR BUST
Re: UCLA dismisses 3 for team violations
Lewis will be either SDSU or WSU.

I don't have Scout, but there was a headline there about Lewis saying that he is still committed to us, but it will come down to signing day for him to make his decision.
I like our chances with Lewis. I'm more worried about Palacio leaving to go elsewhere

Honestly I think we have a better chance with Palacio than Lewis but I think both are gone IMO.

The our current coaching staff is recruiting Texas and most of our commits are from Texas. What is your problem.

I'm not belly aching too much over it, but I will have to challenge you. It doesn't happen everywhere. In fact, name one other school this year where a sub-coordinator coach left and 5 - 6 of the school's top recruits de-committed and/or went with him (or elsewhere). A couple kids, sure. Lopping the head off the class is a little unusual. I'm sure SMU will be fine, but I'm just not ready to accept this as a common occurrence.
Agree with CMF here. More loses from a sub-coordinating leaving a program than I would expect. After all, he's not the HC. I think it may have to do with how little JJ recruits himself. Maybe I'm not correct but it's the perception I have on JJ re: recruiting.

I don't share you opinion re: Lewis. If I thought SMU had someone else, I would say yank the offer. I've never felt so used by a recruit ever.
Oh calm down, he is just exploring his options. Just to get you up to speed, Coach Jones tells all his recruits to explore all their options even after they have committed.

Most of current recruits maybe from Texas, but I think Mitch's point is that we spend a lot of time on CA recruits (a lot of our offers to top recruits are from CA), which leaves us vulnerable in these instances. In other words, a lot of time spent on CA recruits with not a lot to show for it since as you point out most of our recruits are from TX anyways. I don't see anything wrong with that observation.
