SMU offers ... Ty Law?

Post by EP Pony Fan »

Florida cornerback has limited offers, but sounds like he has some talent, and reportedly has run in the 4.4s. Has a handful of offers, including Ball State, Memphis and Washington State. 3 stars on scout and rivals.

Yep but you are kind of late as Rivals reported that yesterday. But I am sure you know that.

Cool. I like FL talent. The more the merrier to expand our recruiting there (will be nice to beat out UCF and USF on some). Can we get a 4 star, though, please?!? Or 2 or 3? ;-)

FWIW, that story indicated that he had offers from BCS program West Virginia and bowl team NC State. Apparently, those offers were pulled when he didn't seem to be sure of what he wanted to do.

If we're going by offers in the evaluation (even if schools withdrew their offers), then I would think he's talented.

?? I don't subscribe to the pay sites.
I have a Google alert set up for June Jones and that sent me a link to the Orlando Sentinel article.

Good article. However, I do have a question about this quote in the article.

""It was kind of sudden, I didn’t expect it," Law said. "They said they needed some corners and hit me up. They threw an offer at me. Coach [June] Jones called me [Wednesday] and told me everything was set."

Wasn't Wednesday part of the Dead period or was it over by then?

On one hand, we're ticked off bc June is in Hawaii.

On another, we're concerned he may have spoken to the kid during a dead period on which kids can facebook w coaches (legal btw) and then call the coaches.

On a third, we really don't know what kind of contact has been made. These "big" weekends in January are usually for the new coaching staffs who are trying to salvage like UCLA and Washington St where most schools who have their classes in tact are bringing in a couple of kids here and there and using one weekend to bring all their recruits in for a get to know you scenario.

I'm just out on June just pointing some things out.

I think most thought he would be back after the dead period Saturday working hard. He said Coach Jones called him (all of a sudden) on Wednesday which he can't do even if the kid facebooked June to ask June to call him if June even has a facebook. Since it is in a national media publication where the NCAA can see it then that is a concern.

Mitch, I feel like we are one of those teams trying to salvage. Honestly though tons of schools have big time recruiting weekends throughout january. They do it to try and close the deal on all the kids that couldn't take visits during the year.

It would be nice to have two guys in the defensive backfield named "Law" and "Justice".
