yep.Dont like the fact that he turned a blind eye on what his buddy was doing but i think in the end it has hit him hard and he is paying for it now
Re: Paterno near death
When he got canned, a friend said it was like taking a part of his life, and predicted that Paterno would be dead in 6 months. It's creepy to think he might have predicted something like that.

Cannot think of anyone that has fallen faster and harder from grace than Paterno.

Re: Paterno near death
I am sure the stress has added to his health situation; however, his situation is very bad and I am not sure the pressure has done nothing more than to speed up the inevitable. I really think his firing was absolutely wrong as he was afforded none of the university procedures of a hearing and statement of the charges/facts and right to answer. A number of the Board members were quoted in the press yesterday that they voted for his firing because they resented the students showing up at his residence immediately after his firing and having a Penn State rally which they viewed as not appreciating the gravity of the scandal. The newly appointed President just completed a 3 city PR tour addressing alums and they practically ran him out of town not accepting his explanations as to the firing of JoPa and the failure of the Board to accept any responsibility noting that the Board was solely responsible for granting the foundation access to all PSU facilities and providing the foundation an office space on campus. Also note that JoPa has not met or spoken with Sandusky since he was dismissed in 1999. Bottom line is that alums are calling for a complete dismissal of all Board members and new transparency for Board actions. The sad fact is that JoPa will probably not live to see any reclamation of his many good works of a life of charity, giving more than $ 5 million back to the university and establishing the football tradition.

PP- yes, I agree that it is sad that an icon like JoePa has to leave in this type of situation.
I also feel he was made a scapegoat for many that did not do their jobs. I have always felt that if and when he left coaching at P-st his life would be short. Like Bear Bryant and others- the university and coaching was his life and after that there was not much to live for. JMHO.
GO PONIES!!!

If all you have to live for is college football, you need to re-think some things.
Paterno near death
The Joe Pa spin doctors out in full force. His inaction when told about Sandusky RAPING a boy is inexcusable! And we only know about this one instance, who knows what else he swept under the rug to protect his fiefdom?

From CBS Sports:
However, Paterno family spokesperson Dan McGinn told a New York Times reporter that the report is "absolutely not true."

Re: Paterno near death
After Ike hit, a lot of elderly people died...they had lost their homes, and family history that couldn't be replaced. They didn't want to have to rebuild....I guess Joe's life was definitely tied to PSU so tightly that he couldn't imagine life without it. While I certainly don't feel he was a victim, I hope he doesn't suffer more than he has to.

you are delusional.
Re: Paterno near death
It will be interesting to see how this is portrayed in the media (other than for a long time, which is inevitable).
Either he'll be the icon who won 409 games who got unfairly run out of his job, or he'll be the geezer who hung on 20 years too long and whose legacy will be that of the guy who covered up for Sandusky.
