That new member would likely be Louisville, which shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Before it was announced that West Virginia would be joining the conference, there were reports that half the schools were split on which school they wanted to extend an invitation to. Half wanted West Virginia, half wanted Louisville.

Re: Here we go again: Report Lville likely target for B12
Big 12 expansion committee had a meeting yesterday and Neinas came out and said nothing new -- same issues that they had before will make them stay at 10 for now.
Of course, he could be keeping his cards close to the vest.

Interesting article here....it's going to get very, very ugly for the West Virginia/Big 12/Big East mess in the next few months.

You can bet they'll continue to do their best to downplay & destroy all non-Big 12 members (us) in Texas. Destroy the BEAST & any chance SMU, Houston, or whomever from this region, chances of qualifying in the cartel's playoff system.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

B12 says schedule comes out Feb. 1. On a sad note, TCU likely to get Texas for Turkey Weekend. They do everything right.

I really doubt they are making a move at this point...as per DMN today, but the WVU deal will get ugly before its all over I predict:
Neinas sees no further Big 12 expansion for now, expects W. Viriginia in league in 2012

Interim Big 12 commissioner Chuck Neinas described a Wednesday teleconference of the league's expansion committee as routine and said no further meetings or calls are scheduled.
It was the first meeting of the expansion committee since the Big 12 decision to invite West Virginia. In an interview with Lubbock radio station Double-T 104.3 FM before the meeting, Neinas indicated that he didn't see further expansion at this point.
"I don't anticipate there's going to be a movement off 10," Neinas said. "It could happen down the road, but we definitely won't be beyond 10 for 2012-2013 and there is strong feeling within the membership that 10 provides the opportunity for round-robin in football and you play everyone in basketball twice ...
"That seems to be appealing to the conference members. To go beyond that will take a lot of research and hard thinking."
Also in the radio interview, Neinas said the Big 12 would release its football schedule by Feb. 1 to meet its contractual obligation to its TV partners. He expects West Virginia to begin competition in the Big 12 next season.
"I'm very confident," Neinas said. "I've been given continued assurances by their president and by their director of athletics. I know they've told the Big East Conference they're going to play in the Big 12 starting in September of 2012, and I have no reason to not accept their position. So we're counting on it."

I wonder how much the damages will be in the Big East's lawsuit if West Virginia just walks away for next season without a settlement... $100 million +. This is very dangerous waters for both West Virginia and the BIG XII - whatever, as they might be named as an additional defendant. I am definitely not an attorney, so if someone with a legal background would like to chime in, I would be curious to hear their thoughts.

Hilltop-completely agree. If the big bevo schedules wva in their conference in 2012 then they are getting involved as part of the problem (IMO) and could face actions as well. If the big bevo doesn't have the agreed to number of teams for their TV contract then they lose a lot of money (IIRC) so they are kind of between a rock and a hard spot.
Since there is continued talk of Lville going to big bevo I hope the BE holds the line on the exit price and time frame for exits. Also with Navy joining the exit price goes to 10 mil. so I doubt many schools will want to jump after that price goes into effect.
GO PONIES!!!

Doesn't the BE adding Navy double the exit fee to $10m? Someone wrote that here earlier, is that legit?

Why would they stop at 10? The only real reason has to be they either can't entice a team that will be a big splash or there are no more teams to really add. Either way staying at 10 is trouble. Why would the B10 add the conference championship game? They could have very easily sat at 10. B12 needs something to go there way and in a hurry. WVU and Louisville most likely aren't the answers.

Lots of people on the BE board have said that as well.
Regarding WVU, there's a rumor that settlement negotiations are in progress and right now it looks like WVU will get to leave for next season if they pay somewhere around a $25 million buyout.

Well, Bevo doesnt want a conf championship game because they're afraid that will keep them out of a BCS title game.

Way too cheap. They can afford to burn couches so they must be rich.

How about $50 million...and a brand new HD video board specifically for SMU basketball
