Class is Complete

Post by max the wonder dog »

Per JJ tweet at 1:23 p.m. CDT. Last man in: Brian Cramer.

20 recruits. Where does that put us on scholarships? Can we count 2013 recruits enrolling next January as part of this class?

So Jason P, our new star recruiter was not able to bring in a single new recruit that he had from his cougar high days. Wow- great start. And we are losing the only recruiter that we had who was actively working.

How does Gilbert fit into this? Does he get a scholarship later? Does that count for or against a class?

I realize his situation is vastly different and just wonder how it works.

I'm not worried about Phillips closing deals. He'll do fine as he gets aboard. This was going to be a tough year for us to recruit once JJ flirted with ASU. Every other coach was able to tell recruits, Jones wants to leave SMU, don't go there. So, after this season, when we win CUSA, and are headed east, we'll have a better class next year.

you forget he was an all southwest conference WR at Houston. He stated up front that he would not try to obtain any decommitments from Houston that he was involved with. The only exception was Collins who was already looking for another home and ended up at TCU.

I believe there was a graduate student exception to the max 85 scholarships rule. I do not know if it is still in place. If not, he would count against the 85 in August.

We need him to do a lot better than fine since he's now the only real recruiter we have. The Jones negative recruiting angles aren't going away, he'll be looking around every offseason and can't reassure anyone that he'll be staying long term since his new extension lacks a buyout. June's intentions will be evident by the kind of start he gets on the 2013 class.

Philips may the "coach in waiting" I suspect, so he can say to these kids if he's not here, I'll still be here.

With the results we have seen so far I sure hope he doesn't think he is the CIW.

Somebody screwed up if Phillips was promised the HC job after June leaves. This guy called plays for one game in his career and got beat out for the top job at his own alma mater for some special teams coach.

The same risk exists with every coach who is successful and not already at a perennial top tier school. The ones who are losing are similarly at risk of leaving because they tend to get fired. This has been the situation in college football since Dana X. Bible.
