SMU lands STELLAR recruting class per SMU
I guess if I say it long enough I will believe it.
Feb. 1, 2012
DALLAS (SMU) - SMU today announced a stellar recruiting class of 20 student-athletes, bringing another outstanding crop of recruits to the Hilltop. This year's group will compete for BIG EAST Championships and a BCS Bowl berth.
Among the signees is Mr. Michigan Football and PARADE All-American Prescott Line, brother of SMU star and Doak Walker Award semifinalist Zach Line. Line will join January SMU enrollee, Indiana Player of the Year and fellow PARADE All-American Gehrig Dieter as newcomers to the SMU football team this fall. With two PARADE All-Americans, SMU joins Alabama, Auburn, Cal, Florida State, Ohio State, Oregon and South Carolina as the only schools with multiple PARADE picks.
With the graduation of five starters along the offensive line, the area was a focus of the class and SMU added five standouts averaging 6-5, 290 lbs.
June Jones' Run & Shoot also added a new quarterback, Neal Burcham, an ESPN.com four-star recruit who was Camp MVP at the prestigious Elite 11 Showcase, besting 23 of the nation's top prep signal callers, including Notre Dame enrollee Gunner Kiel. Notable Elite 11 alumni include Vince Young, Matt Leinart, JaMarcus Russell, Mark Sanchez, Matthew Stafford and Tim Tebow.
With nine ESPN three-star and above signees, SMU tied for the C-USA lead with Marshall and bettered both 2011 C-USA Divisional champs, Houston (8) and Southern Miss (8).

You may want to bring a barf-bag as well. I am sure the spin is going to be really sickening. If we had such as stellar class how would you describe the 86 classes that ranked ahead of us?

According to the press release this class will compete for BE championships and BCS bowls. That is a lot to put on this class so I guess it must be stellar. So CUSA championship is a given next year.

according to scout, we have the 2nd best class in conf usa. Houston jumped ahead with the 5 star who flipped from ND. Houston is ranked 55 and we are ranked 64. There are two Big East teams with lower rankings than SMU. We would have been higher ranked with the Klemm recruits but I donot know how much higher. We really will not know until August how the rankings all shake out because that is when we find out how many non-qualifiers there are in the various classes. Considering Gilbert and the 4 January enrollees, this class is OK. Look forward to a great class next year.

We were a top 40 class before the decommits and in the top half of the BE. Now we are at 64 in total class ranking and 2 from the bottom in the BE per Scout. Rivals is much worse. But as said we need to look for a great recruiting class in 2013 and no projects.

100% agree.

If you are going to put SMU in the Big East, I think you should put in the other new teams. If you do that, then it is incorrect to say SMU is 2 from the bottom in the BE per Scout.
Considering all of the new teams, SMU is 6th in the 11 team future BE, ahead of UConn, USF, SDSU, Navy and UCF.

Don't hate on SMU SID. They do an incredible amount with very, very few resources. Hate on Junesus, but leave our SID office out of it.

We are where we are; like it or not, these are our guys. So let's get behind them, forget any "spin" that the university will put on it and think positively. We are getting spoiled because of the success we have had the last 3 years. So we are not a top 25 team yet, and maybe we won't be for the next 5-10 years. But we are heading up and that is a great place to be going. I feel good about talking with my buddies that went to Big 12 schools about SMU football, proud. And they are starting to take me seriously as they watched every game with me this past year. Hell, my business partner is a freaking Aggie and he is sweating Sept 15th. Another one of my friends is an OSU die hard, but since he moved to Dallas this fall and I MADE him watch SMU, he and his wife are getting SMU season tickets with me.
If they are starting to believe, why can't we?
Too many years of negative results on the football field have turned too many fans into non-believers even when good things are happening and great things are ahead. Instead of jumping to negative conclusions, try falling face-first into the lovely, fragrant, hot, sticky pool of optimism and hope.

A+

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Was the signing daly press conference cancelled? IIRC it was supposed to be at 3:00 ct but I am getting nothing but signing day logo. I also noticed it was taken down from the SMU site.
