Timing of TCU Announcement
Someone probably already commented on this but my question is when did TCU and/or the Fort Worth cops have the goods on these guys? Was this information stonewalled until after the Big 12 switcheroo? If there is proof of this I would kick TCU all the way down to the Lone Star Conference if I'm the Big 12.

Re: Timing of TCU Announcement
i think UT had FWPD kick off the investigation to begin with.

Re: Timing of TCU Announcement
From the quick read of the affidavits, this was going on back in October and early November. Can't comment on if that was enough for the FW PD to go forward or more information was needed.
Two points otherwise.
1. Do you really think UT would be so hypocritical to punish another team because of criminal behavior by its athletes, especially football players?
2. Fatterson has already shown (kicker arrested last season) that he has no problems with sitting on information until it is most beneficial to him to release it, or deal with it.

1. yes. they hold other teams and their players to completely different standards than with which they police their own players.
2. agree completely with this.

Re: Timing of TCU Announcement
I read somewhere in a paper that the reason for the February 1st Drug Test was because of a TCU recruit who told the TCU Coaching Staff they he wouldn't be signing with TCU because of all the Drug use by TCU players on his visit. Wonder if it was that Carthage kid who was supposedly berated by TCU Coaches for his late decommitment.

I was wondering about that as well. I'd be real curious to know who that recruit was (and where he ended up or if he is still on the board).

Re: Timing of TCU Announcement
I see nothing shady about the timing of the sting. Undercover drug stings go on for extended periods and they end when they determine the time is right for maximum benefit or cover is being blown. Unless the FWPD drug group is crooked, which I doubt, nothing strange here.
What is curious is the internal testing. I thought I read in one of the reports that Feb 1 was not the first time there had been a test on the kids. I am wondering how many times testing had been done, and what was being done if there were several kids being found partaking. This can definitely become a big issue with TCU in a similar manner as Penn State is now experiencing. Distrust of a University can have very adverse effects. Parents do not like sending their kids to schools where they have to worry about their safety.
That said, I hope SMU is watching and listening and either getting or keeping itself in good order.

Re: Timing of TCU Announcement
I read about a prior TCU test in 2004 which Patterson ordered after their one bad season-he claimed he did it to find an explanation of why they had underperformed.

Re: Timing of TCU Announcement
I personally don't believe there's ever a good time to announce something like this.
I doubt the Tarrant County and FWPD cared whether it was signing day or not, or gave TCU the option when to make the findings public.
On the previous drug tests conducted by the school, Patterson could say he received the results, ordered the team to clean up, and should have been given time to perform another test after a detox period, after which the repeat offenders would then be dismissed.
That would be the only reasonable argument for Patterson, since sitting on such drug test results would result in major backlash..
