Search Committee is Panicking
We are now 0-7. SMU job is not as attractive as the powers that be thought it would and throwing money is not working.
We are going to get a 2nd tier coach and this is very frustrating. 1-7 were good names. Now were are targeting older, recycled names and assistant coaches.
Love SMU but we shouldn't be in this position to begin with. Very, very frustrating and Steve O and Dr. Turner have Frito Pie in their faces.

Confirmed: Jones has not been contacted. The focus has been on "press conference splash names"
--Va Tech, Marquette, LB State, VA Tech, Harvard, Wichita State, Creighton, Larry Brown...

Re: Search Committee is Panicking
So from that I gather Menzies from New Mexico State has not been contacted either?

Didn't we go with the big name, press conference splash six years ago?

Scott Drew assistant Grant McCasland should get a look if "up-and-comers" are a consideration.

We have no idea as to what is going on and who may have been approached other than Buzz. Search firms can put out any number of feelers and that does not mean anyone was actually approached, offered, interviewed.....etc. The objective here is to take all the time necessary to get it right. This is a critical hire and the program cannot waste another 6 years with the wrong coach with the Beast future facing us one year hence.

You don't know what kind of sources SMUlifer has so you actually can't make that absolute statement that no one knows.

Re: Search Committee is Panicking
If you look at the history of our basketball program and its last few coaches, the school has traditionally been a coach killer (Shumate, Dement, Tubbs, Doh). With SMU going into the Big East, the expectations get higher and the job pressure gets worse. We will be lucky to get a second tier coach that is willing to take a gamble.
