#14 looked better to me (in limited time) than the other QBs.
Connor seemed to have the least zip. Kaiser looks like he has regained his arm strength.
I really think there is no way Gilbert doesn't start in the fall.

Have to agree, QBs looked bad. Connor off target on long passes. Kaiser had pretty good accuracy. Stitch stayed in contention. Sure hope they all improve over performance today by next fall!

Yeah, what is with that? Kaiser looked the part but Krstich was the best QB today. Preston didn't get many throws...maybe because Kaiser is the established (for now) No. 1 and Krstich is fighting for a scholarship.

I have to agree that #14 looked to have the most accurate ball of the 3 QB .

Neither Preston nor Kaiser had the accuracy to complete long downfield passes. Really disappointing considering there was no pass rush and they could sit back there and throw with now pressure.

If I was Baylor scouting that practice, I would not be concerned with the long ball.

He has good stats that are clouded with the fact they were so good his junior year...he was pulled at half time or early in the third Qrtr. 6"3 220 pounds out of California with a good HS program. I wouldn't count this kid out.

CARLSBAD - When Garrett Krstich was a freshman at La Costa Canyon High, his father suffered a fatal heart attack. Jeff Krstich, survived by wife Gwyn and five children, left a lasting memory in the community.

"Do what’s right, do your best, and do onto others" was a message he passed on. Wristbands carrying those words are still worn by family members and students at La Costa Canyon and other schools.

"If you follow those three things, then you’ll be fine," Garrett Krstich said. "It’s hard to follow them all the time. I can’t do it, but it’s a good reminder when something goes wrong."

More than two years later, Krstich has thrived at La Costa Canyon. As a junior, he played football, basketball and lacrosse while carrying a 3.9 grade point average. After playing football this fall, Krstich said he’ll probably drop basketball but hasn’t decided on lacrosse.

Krstich, who credits his mother for helping manage his busy schedule, has been playing football since he was 5 and plans to play in college.

As the Mavericks’ starting quarterback in 2009, Krstich led LCC to 11 straight wins before being eliminated in the San Diego Section Division I semifinals. His athletic and academic performance has attracted the interest of Ivy League schools. This summer, Krstich visited the campuses of Brown, Harvard and Dartmouth.

Under new head coach Sean Sovacool, the Mavericks are using the summer to gain experience and learn a new offense. He’s counting on Krstich to be a team leader and knows LCC’s success will be closely tied to the effectiveness of his 6-foot-2, 185-pound senior quarterback.

"Looking at the roster, I knew he started 12 games and won 11," said Sovacool, who took over the program when Darrin Brown stepped down after last season. "When you see that, you know you have a guy with experience and a guy that can win."

When he was hired, Sovacool said he issued a survey to the Mavericks players. One question inquired about the team’s leaders. Sovacool said 80 percent of the players wrote down Krstich’s name.

"He’s one of those guys," Sovacool said.

Last season, Krstich completed 78 of 125 passes for 1,309 yards and nine touchdowns. A few months after installing a new offense and defense, Sovacool said things aren’t perfect, but Passing League competition has helped the team learn and has allowed players like Krstich to develop.

LCC offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Patrick Toney said the Mavericks are fortunate to have a quarterback of Krstich’s skills.

"His decision-making process is far and above other quarterbacks," Toney said. "Some teams aren’t lucky enough to have a quarterback like us and it forces them to become one-dimensional. He allows us to do the things we want to do."

Krstich knows this season will be different. He has embraced his leadership role and said college recruiting won’t distract him.

"I’m not worried about stats this year," Krstich said. "I know I’ll get to college somewhere. I’m just trying to enjoy this year and see where it takes me."
