Recruitment Apathy ?

Post by panhandle_pony »

It has been announced by Rivals that we have received a commitment from a talented WR from Lufkin, but nobody has posted any details, let alone the announcement. I think the basketball hoopla has taken over - not that that is a bad thing.

I'd bet on that, at this rate our class will end up last among Big East schools.

Just because we lost two assistants that loved to "toot" their own horns with the press and supporters doesn't mean anything is going poorly. Most recruits are not even rated as of yet--certainly true of the three stars. Let's wait a bit before jumping out that window. We are actually way ahead in terms of offers outstanding and the six (including an OL tonight) may prove to be primarily three stars. Remember some of these guys are still only 16, turning seventeen this summer. There is still a full year of high school football ahead and 15 months of growing.

Having said that, we still need two more young agressive recruiters and we still need to agressively go after top skilled players. With June's offense, top receivers and qb's should at least be visiting.

They just received the sixth commit. You never offer a guy unless JJ signs off on the offer. He know what he want and needs. Having had four players drafted this year by the NFL and one more signed as a free agent and two more offered tryouts I say he is doing something right. If he starts losing big time then complain.

LeRibeus and Beachum were actually Phil Bennett recruits.

Brian Taylor, a fairly highly regarded OL (projected as a guard) prospect from Pittsburg, TX? Lists himself at 6'5, 270. 2nd team All-District as a junior. Also supposed to be a pretty good pitcher.

I would imagine that many recruits think they will be playing for a different coach next year...coupled with the lazy staff this is the caliber of players we get now.

Wrong. If you're a player and you think there will be a coaching change, you don't commit now, no matter how much you like the English department or the weather. These guys are committing because they want to play for this staff.

The "lazy" comments have to stop. None of us knows what responsibilities each coach has, and it does nothing but make the program look bad when our own fans are putting BS like this out there.

6'5" and 270 at the end of 11th grade is pretty impressive, and if he can pitch (and I found a story that said he threw a no-hitter, or maybe it was a perfect game), he has some athletic ability and an ability to put what he has learned to use. I look forward to hearing more about this guy.

Well at least he made all district. One of our signees last year did not even do that. By the way, Taylor's HS coach said that he was 6'3 in an interview after the commitment.

I think 03 may be talking about the recruits that are not committing to us for those reasons not the ones committed to us.

The coaches are lazy. Yes we do not know exactly what each coaches responsibilities are but it is readily apparent to anyone that is paying attention that they are not giving it their all.

I lean more to just not very good recruiters for top prospects. Its the oldest staff in this part of the country by about a decade per Coach and there is only one recruiter with what one would consider a strong recruiting resume. It ain't rocket-science-many of us told you this was coming. We really have a 7th lightly recruited (silent) commitment-we haven't out-RECRUITED a single team this year worth mentioning for a single recruit. Interesting 5 commitments from East Texas-none from a major metropolitan recruiting Hotbed
