He picks SMU in a tie with UH, Tulsa for 1st in the West CUSA. That's the good news (probably based on the resurgence of GG), but reading about our O-line is a little discouraging. Not too many "players" there, especially with Reich out. Anyone closer to the program and coaches have any news to encourage an out-of-town sunshiner?

Re: Phil Steele Mag
June's QB's aren't supposed to run in the R&S so he'll get hammered all year. Let's hope he doesn't get hurt.

Gilbert has been in as many BCS bowl games as June. he will run when needed and let June whine about it.

And this is the encouraging news? Oh, brother, should I just sleep through the massacres like Rip Van Winkle?

Re: Phil Steele Mag
with this young OL, the stable of RBs we have and a QB getting to know his receivers, I expect we might see more RUN & shoot this year. New OL coach could be a real key to this year's results

Someone is going to have to teach him to slide, he was a pretty reckless runner at Texas.

Re: Phil Steele Mag
How is picking us to tie with UH and Tulsa a prediction, there are only 6 teams in the division, he basically just split the division into the good teams and bad teams of the year. The only teams he left out of his "tie" are Rice, Tulane, and UTEP.
One thing to really think about is that last year we had a turnover margin of -16. Fum. Gain: 10, Int. Gain: 6, Fum. Lost: 13, Int. Lost 19. Hard to win games that way.

Does June really complain if a QB is flushed out of the pocket and tries to make a play?

Steele's is just a terrible magazine. Just full of worthless stats. That is why it comes out so early before the other more informative magazines....so it can take advantage of the stupid fans who are so hungry for "any" information and impatient for the upcomming season. Me...I like Texas Football although disappointed with much of the coverage for non Big-12 teams but that may be due to the non Big 12 teams media relations and coaches.

Re: Phil Steele Mag
I'm amazed that Texas Football still gives the second tier school like SMU as much coverage as we get. They could have easily cut back on coverage to the non-Big 12 schools. Their life must suck now with schools scattered among the Big 12, SEC, Big East, CUSA, WAC and Sun Belt.

Yes they do cover us well. That's why I buy the mag and visit the web site (good coverage in both for SMU). Now if the Newspaper Media like the Statesman in Austin will follow suit, I think they would find more interest from Texas football fans and football players' families/friends in a game between Rice and UTEP than one between Minnesota and Northwestern, or Oregon State v. Washington. Tier One be damned. Makes me scratch my head in bewilderment when they cover these conferences without Texas ties so thoroughly, and let CUSA and the SunBelt go with minimum reporting. I just don't get it! Laziness I guess.
