BCS Commissioners Reach Consensus on Playoff Plan

Post by Water Pony »

Will the university Presidents endorse the BCS Commissioners proposal for 4 Team Play-off?

"They said they were reluctant to share too many details before they had a chance to discuss them with their bosses, the university presidents. Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott did say the two semifinals would be worked into the existing major bowls and the site of the national championship game will be bid out similarly to the Super Bowl."

I have been advocating for years that there can be an 8 or 16 team play off system wherein the current bowls bid $$$$ for quarter final and semi final games in return for prime time only game on broadcast rights. The TV sponsors would pay more for prime time exclusive time rights, the bowl would get a meaningful game with huge implications and fan interest and the revenues to the NCAA and teams ( ultimately the conferences with the bowl splits) would be staggering. Seems like a no brainer to me when I look at the potiential revenues and fan interest that would be generated.
