SMU picked 3rd in CUSA West
Poll of media that covers CUSA conducted by Chron.com. Houston picked 1st, Tulsa 2nd, SMU 3rd.

I guess since it is a poll conducted in Houston then I guess it would be slanted toward Houston a bit. I pick SMU to finish 1st and that overrides the Houston Chronicle.

I agree. However, I also would be willing to bet that a poll conducted by the DMN would not result in SMU being voted as conference champ.

This was a CUSA Media Poll not a poll of just Houston media-see Pony Pride's similiar post

That is correct. Upon reading again it merely stated that Houston Chronicle conducted the poll (I assume on behalf of CUSA).
Re: SMU picked 3rd in CUSA West by Houston Chronicle
I'm not terribly surprised by this result.
Nor am I surprised that we expect to do better.
Simply looking at numbers (which I would assume out of town media does) we lost our entire offensive line from last season's opener. The out of town media has to believe that's worth 2-3 losses right there.
Combine that with the fact that we have no proven back-up QB (a problem that could come into play due to the offensive line) and they see another loss or two. Two running backs coming off injury. A starting QB, no matter how talented, who is new to the system. Some coaching turnover.
There you go. Third.
Of course, we look in more detail, and some of us are very optimistic about the possibilities for the offensive line this year. We're not worried about Gilbert, we're not worried about any of our running backs. Most of us don't expect anything like third in the West.
But their expectations of SMU this year are perfectly understandable.

Stallion doesn't think I'm a stinkin' genius anymore.

I believe we win CUSA period. We have the team to do it.
