Tailgating for visitors
Hey guys, new guy here obviously. Like everyone else, very excited about football season coming up. Will be coming up for the SFA game and wanted to see what you guys suggested would be best for visitors that want to set up a tailgate. I was unable to make the game a few years ago, so didn't get to see the set up. But I know the area. I've been told just to go to the bar for the most of the day, then head to the stadium. But sitting inside and spending money at a bar isn't my idea of tailgating. So, long story short want to try to set up my tailgate with my group somewhere if at all possible. Was also told there is a cash lot we could get in. How bad are the rules in there? Any other thoughts would be welcome. Looking forward to the matchup, hopefully it's as good as last time!

There is extensive tailgating ,but not from your van,but from tents or just whatever, at locations immediately outside the stadium....there will be big big crowds of students, alums etc.,at least by smu standards.... i think you can "rent" a location and there are some rules, but there will be music,, bbq,all sorts of other food being cooked and alcohol is legal....unfortunately,many of the students prefer the pregame party more than the game,so some/many/almost all the students arrive at the game late/not at all...smu folks are pretty friendly, unless you wear orange or purple...you might contact the smu ticket office now, for information,if they are open...

There are cash lots around campus - you can pop your tailgate and hang out as you please. Wander down the way to the main tailgate area to stroll around.
http://www.smumustangs.com/trads/parking.html I am guessing this site will be updated fairly soon. Lots of campus construction going on. I have seen people park on a few Binkley lots and tailgate out of their cars.

Here is a link to tailgating information. There are a series of links at this site that show maps, guidelines, grilling restrictions, etc.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

when above post says no orange or purple. we mean TCU purple, not Jumberjack Purple.
Jumberjack Purple is OK.

Check with the TCU boosters club as to their location. Many visitor are located on the lawns of our physical education building beside Moody Coliseum. This location is on the visitor's side of Ford stadium.

The cash lot that is on University Blvd, close to Airline Rd....how early does that lot open and how fast does it fill up? Our Alumni Association is setting up fairly close, so we're going to try to get in that cash lot if at all possible. Any advice for that would be great.
