Multi-purpose Facility / IPF / New Natatorium
With our entrance into the BE, SMU needs to address several athletic facilities needs. The link below is one solution to serve multiple sports, including FB, Club Sports and intramurals. The Vanderbilt location is centrally sited next to their Student Recreation Center near the middle of their beautiful campus. Indoor track, Indoor Practice Facility for FB, LAX, Club Sports, etc. are acccommodated.
All we need is to inlcude is the new Natatorium parallel to it. The most practical location where Westcott Field is today. Soccer and outdoor track would be sited at Mockingbird/Bishop or across the Expressway. Multiple use and justification is needed. Vandy has SEC money, but is private. Game on!

Re: Multi-purpose Facility / IPF / New Natatorium
I like the idea of combining the IPF with an indoor track and natatorium.
I hope we are not short sighted to not build an indoor track just because we don't have a men's track team. Just leave enough room to install it at a later date.

I remember an article from around this time last year that IPF was "in the works". What's the deal? Are we waiting for a donation from Allen high school?

Are the intramural fields built over Indian burial grounds or something...seems like prime IPF real estate.

Lets not go over this again...it will come. Have you all driven on campus lately?..it can only stand so much construction. It has to be phased for one thing..

Who the f cares? They are intramurals. There's the park in front of the sorority houses or a park just up the road on Hillcrest, both of which are much nicer than the current field anyway. I just think it would be a perfect location: it's clearly visible from SMU Blvd (the new main entrance), across from the Bush Library, put some signage on the outside of the IPF and you've got a permanent, widely viewed billboard.

We've been phasing in the new natatorium since 1957. It must be pretty far down on the list.

Regrettably, true. The issue of getting a new Natatorium continues to be kicked down the road with administration essentially it is not their problem ($). They expect 90% to come from Friends of SMU Swimming. At $16-20m, that is not easy.

I thought someone mentioned on here at one point that they were talking about putting it across the street where the Mrs Bairds plant used to be. That always seemed oddly far away, but what do I know.
What exactly IS going across the street anyway? Anyone have updates on that?

Why don't we just raise tuition $100/hr to fund a new natatorium.
At $50k+ per year, who would notice another $1,500? That is just a drop in the bucket (yes, pun intended).
Just send 'da money.

Guessing UP/HP would not let SMU start using their public parks for intramurals.
