College Football's Grid of Shame

Post by PonyTime »

By Wall Street Journal - so take it for what it's worth...

The good news - we are entering Powerhouse territory.

The bad news - we are still being branded by what happened almost 30 years ago.

Also - notice the movement of TCU due to the drug bust...

This is why the journal should forget about sports altogether. Sorry, but the DP is over 25 years ago. When college students attending weren't even around when this took place, I think it's safe to say that it's been a long time. How is Washington state trending upward by hiring Leach, a coach with that much baggage coming from TT? If things are supposed to be recent, the toads should have taken a much harder hit.

If they want to take into account the mid-80s in their analysis, shouldn't we also be listed as a Powerhouse, based on what we did 30 years ago?

The problem is that the Toads too a few too many hits.

TCU not as High after drug bust.

Yes, you should be.

The Mustangs got the rawest deal in the history of college football. You would have not even received the death penalty if SMU was a large state school. It was wrong then. And it seems especially wrong in light of what happened at Penn State.

I wish SMU could sue the NCAA for what they did to the program. It's a shame.

Some of these rankings just make no sense to me. WSJ should stick to Business. I mean what UTEP do to deserve being so far down on the embarrassing scale other than being in El Paso?

I agree it was odd that they had SMU way down at the bottom.

I also thought it was odd that LSU got a massive boost awa from embarrassing towards admirable, with the reasoning that they booted the Honey Badger. Seems to me that having to boot a Heisman finalist should actually increase the embarassment factor.

It's a fun idea, but it can't be taken seriously.

While I still would like to see the program at the top of the Big 12, in reality this chart demonstrates why it maybe more important for SMU to change our perception nationally, especially in the Northeast. The Big East gives us that opportunity. Playing great football, entertaining football, with a great campus and rising academics will give us the national boost we need. Playing in a conference with Tech and Baylor just doesn't do it. Having members of our new conference come here to our campus, on national TV does.

If they are going to make these classifications, I think an explanation for the position of each school on the chart should be included (rather than just a few explanations).....

If only they knew how squeaky clean the program is now. One thing you certainly can't say about June is that he's slimy or runs a shady program...this graphic should essentially be filed under the garbage category..
