While it's obvious that our basketball team will not be torching CUSA this year, the fact there's actual progress being made in recruiting in that front (SMU being a top 3 finalist for two of the hottest commodities, and beating out UNC, Kansas, Louisville, Duke, etc, on other recruits) at least gives you hope of what is possible with a competent coaching staff.
Our football program is desperate for change. It is amazing to me that after that awesome Hawaii Bowl win we've had frustrating performances against UCF in a conference championship game, a no-show performance against Army in a bowl game, pathetic showing against A&M last year (and today), etc. We had a up-trending trajectory a few years ago, but at this point I don't see why we should expect us to be able to even compete in the top half of our Big East division going forward. Will we see a coaching change within the season? I hope so. This complacency (and don't get me started on our recruiting) is infuriating.

I check the basketball thread every time I sign on. sort of just hoping one major sport at smu is better than mediocre.

If there's a coaching change, it won't happen during the season.

Agreed. Football isn't going to be anything more than slightly above average this this staff. Basketball on the other hand, hold your shorts, there's real potential for a top-25 ranking within the next few years if things continue going in this direction.bubba pony wrote:I check the basketball thread every time I sign on. sort of just hoping one major sport at smu is better than mediocre.

we just need CUSA play to start for this bunch to be competitive. Like it or not, that's where we dwell

cp- with all due respect. this team will not be highly competitive in cusa. we will lose 4-5 games and if lucky finish in the middle of our div.
next year we will be a doormat for BE. thank you jj- you have really gotten us ready to move up (NOT)

eas to lose perspective when we get waxed by BCS teams, but I watched some of our CUSA mates suffer the same humiliation in recent weeks. It's a long season yet to be played

well, when the only teams you can be competitive with are lower div then amybe that is where we should move to.
