Preston

Post by AusTxPony »

I know JJ won't do this, but I would give GG the first quarter of the TCU game and, if he does nothing like has been happening, then go with Preston. This game should be an evaluation game before we start conference play and GG needs to know this is his "last" chance, until Preston fails as miserably.

yes, yes, yes. Give Connor Preston a shot! We've seen Gilbert and it's obvious he isn't mentally tough enough. Give Preston a go!

I don't see this happening. As much as CP deserves a shot, Jones will never admit that his pre-season selection of GG as the starter was a mistake. Never. Jones' ego has caused him to make several mistakes while on the Hilltop, starting with the 2008 season, Justin Willis. I feel for CP. I wonder if he'll take the transfer route, especially if Jones (and GG) return. I can see him following the trend.

I don't think Preston is the answer.

Its not the QB...its the read and react system...it doesn't work and kills any QB no matter how talented.

Could Preston be the next SMU QB at Eastern Washington?

Agreed. The best QB in CFB would suffer in this system. I think Preston should be switched in anyways since I since he will get sacked I'm sure...

He'll be their starter in 2014

CP is a winner. Look at his history at Serra High School.
He is a proven winner and he deserves a chance right away before the season is over.
GG had his chance and has failed.

We now know why UT gave up on him.

I can't understand why CP did not get in for at least one possession versus A&M.
GG failed. Let's have a contest and see who can produce some offensive touchdowns.

Huh?

I really like CP (I'm a Cali guy of course) but the last person we need to start piling on is GG. Pile on the recruiting, the coaching, the WRs, way before him. I think he's actually done quite well. He and DJ need to get on the same damn page though during this bye period.

Because you are just picking the easiest person to blame its mainly our small slow weak WRs who don't try to get open, and our fresh Oline understandably can't hold against 4 years older experience DL. Therefore GG has about 5 seconds at most to fine someone who might have a shot and make sure to throw it where it lest get picked off. UT sucked and like you made GG an easy cop out when Mack brown is washed up coach.

Why pile on anyone. Let the season play out because you can't change players and coaches so band together and let's do the best we can to win every game. Use the offseason to evaluate. The spring and summer and fall were used to evaluate this team and why would the coaches risk their jobs not playing who they think is best? You have to go to war with the guys who have made it through boot camp.

1) GG's high school record is a match for anyone's.
2) As a UT law grad, I follow the Horns and the Mustangs. GG's problems at UT were largely a function of mistakes made in the OC position. Ash and McCoy II both sucked until the new system (which the new OC implemented) started to take.
3) GG hasn't been great, but the WR's were NOT OPEN much on Saturday. GG was forced to throw difficult passes to guys in tight spaces.

Also first time I agree with a UT grad! Agree on all points

I don't know what to think of Gilbert yet here as we only have played 3 games. Obviously A great High School #1 QB Talent, but not yet in college. I will say this, if the starting QB isn't getting it done, I think it is a good change of pace to give the 2nd team QB a chance to see what he can do, in a game going no where before the game gets out of hand. Sometimes a change of pace helps the starter get focused who, if nothing else comes back into the game later and does well. (Look at K. Padron v Tulane in 2010 who had 4 TD passes after being pulled in 2Q)...My biggest concern is all the statements made by everybody at fall practice, including Coach Jones, about how accurate Gilbert has been in practice. Then when he gets in a game, up until now, he under throws or over throws WRs that are open a good percentage of his passes. The OL has not been great, but not that bad either. Gilbert definitely seems confused and nervous.
