W-Soccer: SMU at UCF

Post by DanFreibergerForHeisman »

After the disappointing showing Friday afternoon, SMU is right back at it Sunday with a tough C-USA match at Central Florida. The game starts at noon SMU time.

The Knights are 10-2-1 and 4-1-0 in C-USA and ranked No. 8 nationally. Their only loss in conference so far has been a 2-1 defeat at Memphis. Their four conference wins are all shutouts.

It will certainly be a challenge for SMU, but we did beat them last year so hopefully we can pull it off again.

SMU up 1-0 at the half!

The UCF keeper had trouble handling a corner and Olivia Elliott was able to punch it in.

What a great result for SMU and an incredible showing by the team bouncing back from what happened Friday night.

SMU really played well today. The stats look like we sat back and took it from UCF but that really wasn't the case at all. UCF just has so much talent and depth and they were able to keep a lot of possession.

Shots were 18-6 for UCF, but shots on goal were just 8-5 for UCF. SMU really put some good shots up when we had opportunities.

The second SMU goal was on a beautiful feed from Shelby Redman to Rikki Clarke on a play started by an intercepted pass by Mallory Baum. The corners were 14-3 for UCF, but UCF only got one or two good scoring opportunities from all of those corners and SMU just about scored on all three of ours (including the first goal obviously).

Lauryn Bodden had a huge game in net - including two amazing saves on back-to-back shots off a quick free kick UCF took from around 20 yards in the 2nd half.

Way to go, Mustangs!

Great result. The team really seems to be responding. Well done Mustangs.
