Jeremy Johnson
Huge game this weekend against UTEP. Looked like an absolute stud with several key catches that kept our incredible defense off the field. He needed his own thread. Both Johnson's can build off pretty good performances in a tough environment.

Re: Jeremy Johnson
Glad you pointed out Jeremy Johnson. He is improving with each game. So far he is upstaging DJ, and is well ahead of Hollemen and Thompson. We really need the others to step up.alamocitystang wrote:Huge game this weekend against UTEP. Looked like an absolute stud with several key catches that kept our incredible defense off the field. Re: Jeremy Johnson
He has been playing the most consistent of the receivers. In my opinion you can't really say he has been upstaging DJ. I'm putting DJ's lack of production oh Gilbert. DJ put up huge numbers with the previous two QBs, but GG hasn't figured out how to get him the ball.

Re: Jeremy Johnson
Understand, and DJ was hurt. Still he is doing very well, let's hope he keeps it going in this direction.

Re: Jeremy Johnson
At least two passes to DJ would've/shouldve been completed had GG accomodated for the crown of the turf in the Sun Bowl, which has a crown like the stadiums in the 80s did. Caused the throws I'm thinking of to be a foot and a half over DJ's outstretched arms.
Re: Jeremy Johnson
If GG learned how to throw it less than 100mph, it might help too.PonyPlayer4 wrote:He has been playing the most consistent of the receivers. Good observation RGV, stadium was built in the 60's I think. I assume they don't make the crowns like that anymore (like Texas Stadium was - very apparent).RGV Pony wrote:At least two passes to DJ would've/shouldve been completed had GG accomodated for the crown of the turf in the Sun Bowl, which has a crown like the stadiums in the 80s did. Re: Jeremy Johnson
DJ has always had reliability issues. Highlight reel one minute, bounces one off his chest the next.
I think if we get to the point that we can string some longer drives together -- that will really help too. When you keep going 3-and-out you don't get that many opportunities to make a reception. If you go 9 plays on a drive, you're getting 3X as many opportunities to catch the ball as when you go 3-and-out.
A little consistency will make a monster improvement in both the offensive and defensive stats.

I guess we haven't been watching the same games the last 3 years. I have always thought of DJ as sure handed and very reliable. June Jones even mentioned in an interview after the TCU game that the weather had to effect the receiver because DJ never drops the ball, ever.PerunaPunch wrote:DJ has always had reliability issues. June says a lot of stupid [deleted]. DJ has dropped a lot of easy passes in his career. He has also caught all the hard ones.PonyPlayer4 wrote:I guess we haven't been watching the same games the last 3 years. I have always thought of DJ as sure handed and very reliable. Re: Jeremy Johnson
DJ is still our #1 receiver by far. JJ is #2. Thompson has been such a disappointment so far and Holleman is very unreliable. GD should replace Holleman imo

Re: Jeremy Johnson
It's hard to believe that 5 years into JJ's system, the offense would be this "offensive" and painful to watch.........

about anything else, but that is all you can do.
Re: Jeremy Johnson
I haven't seen anything to brag about from anyone on offense, especially at receiver. Saying one guy is best is like saying since one guy only dropped 5 passes and the other dropped 6 then that guy is the best. Why even bring it up? I haven't seen one guy catch the ball, maybe break a tackle and make a long run for a td or even just a long run. It is catch and be tackled with this group. The wide-open catch by DJ and half-hearted jog into the endzone at UTEP is about the energy-level I have seen with this group the majority of the time. Very little passion...just meander up to the line of scrimmage and come off 3/4 speed if the pass is to you and 1/2 speed if it isn't. Can't believe Phillips allows this but on the other hand does he even have much input since this is all about the head coach?
