QB Drew Weatherford
Word has it Drew, the highly regarded QB from Florida, is highly interested in SMU and will definitely take an official visit to "Big D". Has always liked SMU and would be a two generation legacy.
The SMU coaches are stirring it up and getting a really strong, positive response. It looks like we will start reeling 'em in.

Oh "WORD" has it does it? Forgive me if I seem a little skeptical on that one. It may be true but that's anything but a reliable statement.

Re: QB Drew Weatherford
Everything I've read has him listing the big Florida Schools, especially Florida State - his childhood favorite. Where do you hear he's coming for a visit?
Re: QB Drew Weatherford
Landing a nationally-recruited QB like Weatherford would make a hell of a splash on the recruiting scene. Keep your fingers crossed.

Re: QB Drew Weatherford
If you knew Stampede, you wouldn't question his "WORD".
He knows what's going on.
Doesn't mean the Weatherford kid will sign, but if Stampede says he's coming for a visit, you can bank on it.

Re: QB Drew Weatherford
I don't see it happening. This kid can go anywhere he wants! While it WOULD make a big splash and certainly help SMU's aspirations of being a Top 40 caliber program, I don't see the incentive for Weatherford to come here UNLESS...
1. Playing Early is something we could offer (and if he's as good as advertised then yes we can)
2. Family is urging him to consider their bloodline school.
Coach Bennett would have throw on some Mack Brown-esque snake oil to lure this blue chip in.

Re: QB Drew Weatherford
I'm not sure about the early playing time. Bartel looks vastly improved over last year, and word is the coaches are even more enamored with Ricky Joe Meeks than they were when they were recruiting him. I think he will make an honest man of Coach Bennett, who said the freshmen will have a chance to compete for playing time.

PP, I do know Stampede, and sometimes his word is still questionable. What I know about him is he's an Ex-cheerleader and he'll always tell you everything is going great. He could give spin lessons to Iraq's information minister. He has a bad tendency to tell you things that he wants to happen, as if they have already happened.
I hope Weatheford does take a visit with us, but I have to remain skeptical about how high his interest level actually is, until I hear it from someone else.
PS: Saddam Hussein plans to take an official visit to Syria. Or any other country that will let him in.
And those US tanks in Baghdad are just there for tourism. They're part of a parade, its a holiday.

Okay, Nacho Camacho, when have I EVER said anything but the truth? When I say it ... ears are all bent,.... oh, so you want to know a little more "word"....
It appears as though Mr. Weatherford will be coming to SMU for football camp this summer.
Is that enough or do you want to know more? Well good luck ...the Minister of Information will get it before Nacho. Have another Falstaff with your Ro-Tel and go get your "info" from a more reliable source.

Re: QB Drew Weatherford
Well I certainly hope that happens. Getting him on campus will be a huge accomplishment in and of itself. Stampede I'm not denying that you may have some inside info, but w/ the way false info is constantly being tossed about, you can hardly hold it against us to be skeptical. Again I hope your right and all those things come to pass and Weatherford ends up a Mustang. Can't ever have too many quality QB's

Re: QB Drew Weatherford
Sure there's some "false" information floating around out there. But I think it has more to do with the fluctuating nature of recruits' decision-making processes than anyone here specifically trying to deceive anyone else. So if the Weatherford kid wants to come down here for summer camp, whether he's serious or just doing it to pacify dad and grandad... There's no telling.
But I've see Stampede talking to Coach Bennett on many occasions, and I see him standing on the sidelines at closed practices, so I tend to think he's better informed than most.
Besides, how bad would it suck if we had to wait until it was "official" and The Dallas Morning News reported it? That's what I'm here for in the first place; to hear about the rumors, to hear what's going on behind the scenes, and of course, to hear it first.

Re: QB Drew Weatherford
If you read it in the Dallas Morning News, it would probably in an ad someone bought to announce it or slipped into some front page feature about the Hicks/UT Longhorns.
Re: QB Drew Weatherford
Nothing concrete on Drew Weatherford at this time. He has expressed some interest in SMU and might be coming out for camp this summer.
I understand his first choice is still FSU, but it's still way early in the game. Kids can't make official visits until the fall, so most of them won't start making plans until late summer.
