Adrian Klemm

Post by MustangMan2001 »

What about replacing JJ with Adrian Klemm. Probably a long shot he would leave Cali but I always thought he would be a great head coach. Thoughts?

Young coach who can relate to players, amazing recruiter, and hard worker... A win, win in my opinion

He would leave UCLA for a HC position but the question is do we want a position coach with a handful of coaching experience to be our next HC?
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Why would anyone believe he has head coaching ability. The only thing you accomplish for sure by making him a head coach is taking him off the recruiting trail since he is not allowed anything but limited visits as a head coach.

I say take the Larry Brown approach. Bring in a person with prior head coaching experience who has some fire and some name recognition. And bring in some strong recruiters as assistants.

Klemm doesn't have enough experience yet--in my judgment--to take over this team. If he wanted to come back as an assistant and recruit, that's fine.

But given the gravity of our situation, we need someone who has "been there and done that." I'm not sure who that person is right now, but I want to believe that SMU is the type of program that is attractive to an experienced head coach.

The only reasonable name I've seen thrown out here among the insanely stupid ones (Klemm included) is Sonny Dykes. He might be tempted by more money (I'm assuming he doesn't make $2m/yr like Jones) and a move to the Big East, but I don't think SMU is THAT much of a move up for him. If he keeps doing what he's doing, he'll do what the last La Tech coach did and that's go to a major-BCS school.
