I have been critical of the play of Gilbert, but I thought he played well for the most part and helped us Win the game. No question he showed improvement which I know we all were glad to see. Hope he keeps up this progress.

GG can be a great quarterback (over 60% completion, over 3000 yards, over 100 passer rating, etc) if he can get 3 things taken care of:
1 - Confidence! I don't care what anyone says, his UT experience starting with being thrown into the NC game as a true freshman has lingered and crushed his confidence. I hope he's getting it back. I don't know. This game should help.
2 - Mechanics, especially maintaining his poise on the move. No matter where you are do NOT throw it (unless throwing it away of course) until your feet are under you and shoulders square. He's got the arm and the accuracy when that happens. He can make all the throws. The big INT early against TCU and the terrible overthrow for the TD to DT in this game is all a result of just maintaining your poise and staying focused on your mechanics at all time. Peyton Manning is a master of this and it will put him into the Hall of Fame. It can't be overlooked.
3 - Timing. I think the guy's pretty smart and competitive and a leader so the timing comes with repetition. I THINK this is getting much better (it had to). We will see.
The first 2 are on the coaches (GG, too of course, but great coaching will do the trick - his abilities/talents are certainly there). The "what was he thinking?" type throws is a result of 1 and a little bit of 2. He can also run a little bit as well. He's a pretty athletic guy. I hope he has a 4,000+ yard season next year, throws 65% and gets drafted and shuts up all the moron haters. I like his attitude and seems to be a great kid.
