Leaving Points on the Field

Post by 1983 Cotton Bowl »

I love the fact that we scored 72 points, the most in school history. I love the fact that it is the most points ever scored against UH football. And I love the fact that it happened against UH. But I would have liked to have seen at least 2 more TDs. As the points started to pile up, I began to think more and more about the 1989 SMU-UH game. After all these years, we finally got a measure of revenge. But we also had 12 drives that netted a total of 67 yards. Imagine if we could have scored on just 2 or 3 of those drives. We could have gone over 90 points! Hate to leave points on the field like that against UH. Gotta do a better job!

. . .and no, I'm not being serious. Great win for the Mustangs!

I was only a few months old when that game happened and I'm still mad about it. Eff cougar high (lowercase makes it funnier).

Rarely does a team perform perfectly on offense for an entire game. Leaving 15 (missed EP) isn't bad given some long scoring drives and a great D effort.

A buddy of mine yelled "go for 80!" A 25ish year old guy yelled something along the lines of "way to stay classy SMU".

When I asked him if he remembered 95-21 and whether he thought that was classy. He had no idea what I was talking about.

A guy a row over said be was there for that game. (UH fan). When I asked him if going for 80 was classy, he just laughed. I would have loved to get to 80.

Did the guy think we were classless because we kept returning interceptions for TDs? I do not think there was ever a ponit in the game where we could have been accused of running up the score.

Houston can drop four touchdowns on you real quick. I didn't feel comfortable until that long drive at the end of the game.

We got revenge when those 1989 SMU freshman were seniors and beat UH by several touchdowns.

Also that game we just came off the death penalty and had a team of small freshman. UH ran up the score on purpose. Yesterday we scored in spite of ourselves. UH kept handing us the TD's. SMU scoring was surreal. TD’s just kept coming no matter what UH did. I will always hate them for their classless display in 1989

Always run the score up. Especially in college football where "style" points count as much as the win.

Agreed, there was no running up the score this year. In '89 there was lots of it, UH was trying to embarrass our students. Pardee and Ware are worthless!

Glad I got to see that game, but of course I forgot to record it!

not really, they thought my buddy was classless for saying "go for 80". after he was rebuked by the younger dude, i reminded the younger dude of 95-21. he was clueless as to what i was talking about.
