7th Bowl (ESPN news)

Post by SMU_Alumni11 »

Its ESPN and maybe the debate talks are going bad, but this is pretty bad news. Sadly it seems like we are becoming the new 1-aa group with the degree of separation and access to the bowls. There is hope for teams like Boise St who can go undefeated but the way its set up makes it seem like we will have to load up the OOC and WIN THEM!

Ah yes...good ole ESPN. ACC in the power conferences list and BE in the non-power conferences list. Negotiations must be going strong on the new TV contract.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

They released this exactly 1 week before the exclusive negotiating window is over.

They're probably just bitter that they will have to share it with another network. I'm hoping for ESPN/FOX package. Either way, I'm sure they arent bringing us good influence to the other commishs.

If nothing has been agreed to, then tv deal goes to the open markets.

Exactly right and it appears they aren't getting the deal!

Man, Disney must be rolling over in his grave if he could see what has happened to his company.

An attempt to drive the price down at the very end of negotiations. My money is still on ESPN winning this thing for around 8 mil/yr including a release next Friday about the Big East access bowl.

Fortunately we have a guy like Aresco in there. He knows what games they are playing on us. Hoping we don't lose the bowl but I don't want to give in to lower tv money for a possible bowl for the big east.

College football is becoming a cartel. Either that or a mafia led by its boss, ESPN. It's amazing how they have created different rules for certain colleges. Everyone should have a shot not just primarily the large public schools that are funded by us the taxpayers to begin with.

Exactly. Very well said. And don't get me started on the NCAA.

I'd be surprised if the Big East doesn't make some sort of package deal with ESPN before this is all said and done.

I think they will add fox at least for teams like us, I will call us politely the small stock growers, tons of risk to bet but can pay out huge dividends. Therefore they will call on number 2 media provider fox sports to share in the risk, maybe take the west coast teams and they get the east. That way big east can get there 15 mil a team or more and it's not all shelled out of ESPNs mighty coffers.
