The day the Mustang Band does a poor impersonation of Grambling, is the day I drop all support.

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

All bands who have done this left something to be desired. The song doesn't have enough variety to be played by a full marching band.

Agreed. They'd be better off doing a video game salute...

Well, then again, maybe not.
Don't worry. Be Happy. Or not.

Isn't that what they said about jazz before the mustang band pioneered its use by marching bands? Didn't they change their instrumentation to enable playing modern, relevant music to entertain the generic football fan?

Cool article on the Mustang Band from Collier's Magazine, 1940.

http://www.unz.org/Pub/Colliers-1940nov16-00016

I know the more recent generations loved the Dreibrodt band (60's-80's), but I want to know more about this 30's and 40's stuff. They accompanied the team to LA for the Rose Bowl, and stayed an extra week playing in clubs! Toured the vaudeville circuit so much that the school had to put a stop to band travel just so they wouldn't miss any more classes.

I bet a bunch of guys from Dallas in those days were probably pretty rough around the edges too, tearing stuff up, collecting groupies in the club

Forget "Mighty Mustang Thunder", let's bring back "The Tank Destroyer March"!!!

from http://www.tankdestroyer.net/index.php? ... &Itemid=60

"Bill’s remains were returned from France in 1949 to Arlington National Cemetery to rest in peace among many comrades-in-arms.A book entitled The 610th Tank Destroyer Battalion - April 10, 1942-December 7, 1945 was written by Major Roy T. McGrann, the battalion intelligence officer. Mrs. Herold composed the "Tank Destroyer March." Frank Malone of SMU orchestrated it. It was played at candidate graduation exercises and SMU football games. "

Reading about Peruna riding the NYC subway back then has me feeling slighted about the Mustang Club's current events up here, where we don't know if JJ is even going to show up...

I would love to hear a recording of the Tank Destroyer March. Sounds like fun.
