Gilbert
One of the best performances I have seen from an SMU QB. He was really fun to watch today and made lots of big plays and hit a lot of receivers in stride. Even his run plays/TDs were impressive.
25 of 35 for 353 yards and 71.4% completion. Long of 70. 1 TD and 0 INT and 2 running TD's.
He had looked much better against UH, and continued that improvement this week. He seems to be understanding the offense better and looks confident. Hopefully it continues.

It's all between the ears with him as he has all the physical tools. It's all about confidence. I see a little more of JP's handiwork in the play calling last week and this week with a lot of the short passes stuff ala UH last 3-4 years. That's what we have to have.

Re: Gilbert
Agree. Great game. Finally seems to get JJ's offense. Line eloped to be sure. but a great game. He seemed to make god decisions and his feet.
Re: Gilbert
He ran as well. Instead of waiting for other reads, he took what was in front of him. The option at the goal, the QB draw...was this Gilbert or a more open playbook?
What this does introduce is another thing that defenses must scheme out. MUCH more confident that UCF can be beat with today....cautiously optimistic...

Re: Gilbert
I'm loving seeing Gilbert running out there with a smile on his face gaining confidence with each game.
Re: Gilbert
That last Touchdown throw he looked like he was playing in his backyard.Nice touch on the ball also.
Re: Gilbert
He had a brilliant 2nd half.
His TD run was a real heads up play.
He hit a receiver on an out pass in stride under tight coverage. Shows what his physical gifts are.
It was Memphis and he did have time to throw. Hopefully when gets under pressure at UCF he will make good decisions with the ball.
If he can then he will have passed a major milestone.

Re: Gilbert
Maybe he is finally done being the ex-UT quarterback and now can just be himself and be SMUs quarterback. Meanwhile David Ash got benched in the fourth quarter today, being a UT qb ain't all its cracked up to be.

Hated to see UT pull out that win. Figured if they lost to KU they would go 5-7. Barely beating Baylor one week, then barely getting by Kansas the nextHoop Fan wrote:Maybe he is finally done being the ex-UT quarterback and now can just be himself and be SMUs quarterback. Re: Gilbert
Really enjoyed the game today with Gilbert. I didn't come close to passing out after every throw like last year trying to watch JJMc and holding my breath. Good job guys!

Re: Gilbert
I think I was most proud when he had no one to throw it to and calmy launched it in the stands. Now if we can teach Romo to do this.

Re: Gilbert
First half was bad... that is the only word. Sacks, missed WIDE open passes.
Something had to change.
Play calling, confidence, told to run for it, tired of getting trashed, confidence again....
The second half he was FAN tastic.
With some touch and on target throws... we have receivers that are FAST.
Proud to have yelled praise.
Go Mustangs
