If June leaves should we be trolling the nursing homes?

Post by Insane_Pony_Posse »

Larry Brown returned to coaching at 72 years old and appears to be getting top recruit after top recruit for SMU basketball. Bill Snyder returned to coaching at 73 years old and has Kansas State rocking again. We always talk about "bringing in a young energetic guy that can recruit 24/7" but should we also consider an older wise proven winner? It just seems like these older guys (Larry Brown & Bill Snyder) must be out recruiting a lot of "young energetic guys".

Let's troll wherever the recruiters are.

It is all about energy levels and interest. Older coaches should be the most experienced and have the recruiting skills to be very effective. Problem is when those experiences fail to keep pace with changes and the interest and energy levels disapate.

It isn't the ancient coach, it is the staff they hire. Larry Brown has name value but it wouldn't get him anywhere if he hired staff in a more June manner

I’ve always been a LB fan going back to his days on the NC bench. I hope he succeeds big time. I also hope that they can actually get all these recruits through admissions process. A big question mark for me. However, if in year 3 &4, he and his staff have only managed;

1) 18-20 win type seasons
2) No conf Champ, even if he played for one
3) Only 3 NIT bids and he made it past the first round twice, when anyone (64+) get an NCAA bid, and we only get NIT (Mid tier bowl bid)
4) Georgetown and UCONN pound us by 16+
5) We can’t go out and recruit consistently or at all against UK, NC, OU, KU, UT, BU etc.
…..
Some we’ll calling for his head, and saying he is too old, the games has passed him by etc. etc. etc. Because in year 4, we all know we should be a Top 20 team and getting into the Sweet 16. In fact, I don’t know if we should even give him to year 4. After all, the B-Ball team has not had 25 years of crap and the DP to deal with. Certainly after 3 years all these 17-18 years old will know who SMU is.

But, I am a HUGE LB fan; I hope he truly kicks A--
