JJ's Pay

Post by SoCal_Pony »

per USA today, looks like JJ is ranked #45? at $1,825,089 annually.

Thought he originally received $2M per and then got a raise.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nc ... e/1715543/

Anyway, all those coaches owe JJ or more specifically SMU a big THANK-YOU as we helped raise the market price of a HC.

Problem now for SMU is that in order to make a similar 'splash hire', looks like we gotta pay out $3-$4M + staff + big boy perks. Given our uncertainty, think the CoC would pony up?

This may be a dumb question, but why does the CoC have to keep footing the bill for coach salaries? Is that how it's done at other schools?

Other than saving the damn football program from extinction. Other than taking us to three straight bowl games after a two decade long stay in the bottom five of all football teams. You lemmings are unbelievable.

As long as he had this thing on the upswing, I think JJ definitely earned his money. So I think the investment was a good one in 2008, 20009, 2010, and arguably most of 2011. I think somewhere in 2011 (after the UCF game maybe), is where it started to move in the wrong direction. So would I say that $2.2 million investment is performing well right now. . .no. But over the life of the investment, I'd say its done pretty well.

More like he got us a stay of execution, we're still facing the needle but time is running out and June's not interested in doing more for us.

I think every Coach we have had since DP would have gone to multiple bowls and could have easily gone 7-5 playing in CUSA and with the present academic Model. No doubt in my mind. Look at our CUSA schedule. We shouldn't be outrecruited by a single team in our Division except perhaps at times Houston. Changing the academic model saved the program and since the actual evidence is overwhelming that those changes were made prior to and in order induce June Jones to take the job-I don't give him credit for that. SMU's administration and leaders get credit for that

since we didn't make those concessions or changes for bennett or any of his predicessors, i think he does deserve at least some credit for that. the trouble i have with all the BIG NAME coaches including to some extent, jj, is that they think money should never be an object to providing whatever they want (IPF--or anything else) to build THEIR programs. If state U. has it, they have to have it or they have another "commitment" excuse for not winning. despite this years disappointments, i think we should give jj another year, and we should get out of a couple of those nonconf juggernaut games. even jj says we are not ready for that.
