ACC new Geography

Post by gostangs »

I would think the ACC would come to the conclusion they have too tight a geographic footprint to drive big enough TV dollars. Shouldn't they want to expand to ...say....Texas? They can also pick up two good basketball programs.

In Tuscaloosa and the demise of the ACC is the discussion point in the bars on the strip (for what that's worth???) - I would be highly worried if I was the ACC. The SEC will likely target VaTech and NC State. Big 12 considering Clemson, Fla State, and ND ( who could easily screw the B1G by joining the Big 12). This is just getting started...

A Big 12 with recruiting footprint in Texas, Florida, South Carolina and Georgia maybe Virginia-maybe ND would be an expansion coup. The Big 10 has added a lot of TV sets and basketball/hockey/lacrosse players. Not sure SEC will be particularly happy how it turned out if this happens. Miami (South Florida recruiting goldmine) probably still going to be a player in this puzzle despite looming NCAA probation as long as they don't get DP. They maybe one of the last hands to be played.

My prediction: Big Ten will go after Georgia Tech, which not historically tied to ACC, strong academics and located in a big market, Atlanta. Again, more pressure on the ACC. The 16th candidate could also come from ACC, while SEC may be lurking too.

I'm surprised the BIG took Rutgers, really thought they would steal Syracuse and even Pitt instead. Maryland is just a really weird fit for the Big 10 altogether. ACC should have offered West Virginia while they had the chance, they could add Uconn but what they really need is a football school or two.

Big10 hasn't done anything to increase their very average football problem.

Wow, obviously a lot of speculation there, but I have to think that would be fantastic for the Big East if accurate. Adding Duke, Wake, and Syracuse would easily make it the best bb conference out there.

It battle for survival between the two conferences. The thing is how does the ACC lose? They have a great tv contract, they have a spot at the big boys table. Unless they lose F.state and clemson, how do they lose?

it could be interesting, but i could see Syracuse, BC and Pitt wanting to return to their Big East Madison Square Garden basketball roots if the ACC falls apart. Hard to imagine a league centered in Greensboro at that point. Duke has always maintained a presence in NYC. there may be too many schools interested actually, wonder if they would ditch the western idea. One of the reasons to invite Boise was to maintain BCS strength, if that is completely moot now, maybe Boise and SDSU stay with MWC.

It has been reported in another thread that both are committed to the BE. The article had pretty straightforward quotes from the SDSU AD on it.

doesn't care who wins.
