Best SMU Band Recordings?

Post by Digetydog »

Since I know that there are a lot of band people on this board, I wanted to get some guidance on the best SMU related recordings available. The fight song I downloaded on iTunes sounds like it was recorded in a toilet and that just will not do.

Plus, I would love to find a nice recording with the words sung by someone good. Time to start teaching my little girl the words.

Thanks.

I bought a bunch of CDs a few years ago at the book store. Would recommend the albums called: "SMU Mustang Jazz," "Mustang Jazz, Volume 2," "Southwest Conference Jazz," and "Mustang Jazz at the Cotton Bowl." There's also a more recent recording called "Peruna 2001" if you want some more updated music.

"Red Hot & Blue" is good. The 2001 one is like the one he has that sounds like a toilet

Do you mean to sing the words to shanty town? The band sings it on the recordings mentioned above, but there's not a version with a single vocalist.

If you do want any of those CD's, I'd swing by the band hall (under the natatorium) and they might sell you one directly, without the Barnes and Noble markup.

I could help you with getting the words to any of the songs, if you'd like.

I know SMU Mustang Jazz and Red Hot 'N' Blues both have good versions of Shanty Town - and they are both sung properly as well.

There are also solid vocal versions of Varsity on both.

Are there other things you want?

The band spent weeks during recordings last year, but I still haven't been able to find any copies of it.

It's a shame that song was retired. It's a classic.

And the people after my class don't know the melody, just a monotone massacre of epic ear bleeding.
