The games changes nothing. Was won by the defense and whoever convinced June to let GG run. We only passed for 212 yards. Rushed for 168, of that 100 was GG. The offense is still garbage, recruiting is still problematic

actually the last couple of games this year changed a lot; opposing teams now have to prepare for GG as a threat to run. Now, if we can work on the accuracy of those deep throws...

No.....although if we load up with teams like SFA, Nortwestern State, we could possibly go 4-0 in nonconference.

His next step should be to retire from SMU.

He should have a beer with Kyle Shanahan over the off season and see how that run/option works. GG is not RGIII, but that seemed to even work with Kirk Cousins who is no speedster. I even like the fumble pitch play down field.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Jones is the coach of the whole team. If the defense was terrible then he should be blamed, so I find it silly to refuse to credit him for a good defensive performance. He is the one who hired mason.

Even sillier is to try to say that someone who convinced him to let GG run gets the credit. First, where is the evidence that someone else convinced him to do it? Second, if someone else did convince him to do it and it did not work jones would still be responsible for it and deserve the blame, so he deserves a share of the credit.

There are so many things to criticize him for, with recruiting being way up the list, there is no reason to invent things to criticize him for.

I agree with most of what Grant Carter is saying here. My problems with June are, for the most part, contained in 3 buckets:

1. Recruiting- Don't really need to expand on this

2. Offensive production- We have not had an elite run and shoot offense at any point in June's career at SMU. In fact, our offense has been below average in most seasons. This year our offense finished #93 in total yards and #59 in total points (aided by the fact that our D was #3 in turnovers) against an abysmal schedule (CUSA teams plus Baylor and SFA; TCU and TAMU have legit defenses though). Unacceptable from an "offensive guru"

3. Overall attitude that turns off the fan base- Don't want to get into a detailed discussion here as we have beaten this horse (or gelding) to death.

This was a great win for SMU but I don't think it addresses issues 1 and 3 above. Furthermore, #2- the offense was nowhere close to firing on all cylinders.

So true. Good list of complaints. The win was good but will be easily forgotten in a couple days after the big boys play. I'm telling you even though I'm not a fan per se, I'm pulling for the aggies to destroy OU. Maybe one day with an actual 10-2+ coach/team we can play in the cotton bowl against our former SWC pals.

He is supposed to be an offensive specialist, and is known to have little to do with the defense. If this is what Jones gives is we can make Mason the HC and go find a OC. Rusty Burns did more at SMU with less, I wonder if he is available. He'd have GG looking like Willis.

I voted for one as I don't think he'll be here after next year. I think he wants to go out on top. If we win next year, he leaves on his own. And who wouldn't be happy with a conf championship?

So since June is known to have little to do with the defense would you not hold him responsible if the defense was terrible? It sounds like that is what you are saying. I can't believe that would be the case.
