What's next for MARGUS HUNT?

Post by PonyPride »

Four years ago, Margus Hunt joined the SMU football team with unmatched athletic gifts ... and unmatched inexperience in the sport. His college career ended Dec. 24 when he thrashed the Fresno State offensive line in SMU's 43-10 rout of the Bulldogs en route to earning MVP honors for the game. Now, the most talked-about SMU player in decades is getting ready to pursue his professional career, and visited with PonyFans.com to discuss what lies ahead.

Enjoy!

Thanks for a good article. I would like to post one of his comments that many posters on here need to remember:

"(Losing winnable games) is part of college football," Hunt said. "It happens. That’s why they say ‘anything can happen on any given Saturday.’ If one team makes a couple of mistakes here and there and the other team plays well, the other team has a chance to win games. That doesn’t mean that’s a better team - it’s just part of competition. We had a couple of tough losses, but we never quit and our coaches never quit pushing us and preparing us. Whether we won or lost, we expected to get to end our season in a bowl game, and even after a tough loss, we were able to come back with a strong game, like we did against Houston.

Now enough forum talk about Tulane and Rice.

Losing to Tulane will never have been acceptable.

He didn't say it was acceptable. He said tough losses happen, and what matters is how the team responds.

I KNOW IT WON'T HAPPEN, SINCE MARGUS HAS AN NFL CAREER IN HIS FUTURE. See if LB could talk Margus into coming out for the basketball team. The Ponies could use an extra big body. If nothing else, it would be an interesting 5 fouls Margus would take.

^^^Now that's funny and would be a sight to see. Interesting point, that we played our best Conference games after bad losses - Houston after Tulane and Tulsa after Rice. Hadn't thought of that.

He might forget he is playing basketball and start tackling people.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Wasn't there talk that Margus was one of the football players Larry B wanted to consider? Or was that just speculation/chatter from PonyFans?

I would have loved to see him last night against Wyoming. That big bald guy (#0) was killing everyone except Cunningham inside because he's so strong. I don't know if Margus can play basketball or not, but watching those two wage war in the paint would have been pretty entertaining.

Great story. Good luck, Margus!

He could do the shot put motion and probably make a full court basket.

Losing to Tulane is never acceptable! Unbelievable that you are telling people to stop being upset about that. Loser mentality.

I find myself wondering how a student enrolled in college is able to train for 8 weeks in another city between the end of the college season and the draft. Do these guys just drop out after the fall semester of their senior year?

Most of the players that have a good shot at the NFL usually don't register for spring classes the year that they are drafted.

Exactly!...Why would you?...millions are at stake. You can finish your degree later.

Do schools end up honoring that last semester of scholarship if they come back at a later date? If so, is it considered "academic" at that point and not "athletic"?

Quoting from the last paragraph of the story:
"Hunt, who graduated in May with a degree in sport management..."
