BYU blogger says stay independent

Post by Water Pony »

Despite the changing landscape of college FB, including access to media revenue and premier bowls, this article makes a case for BYU to "be calm and carry on" (as is).

However, this point is interesting and extremely unlikely for an independent:

"As foolish as it sounds, coach Bronco Mendenhall openly states his goal is to compete for national championships. Good for him, even if it’s a long shot. Without the possibility of a conference championship, BYU might as well shoot for the moon.

Mendenhall has often said his team needs to produce multiple undefeated seasons in order to receive consideration to play in the national championship game. A 25-game winning streak isn’t likely."

Definitely one of the problems with being indy. The only thing you have to shoot for is the national championship and/or a BCS slot. BYU has no chance at either as an indy.

from my perspective BYU is fading away into complete obscurity since they've gone independent. I'm not sure what they are accomplishing. At one time they were the Top dog in the moutains-now just another team lower than BSU and among Utah St etc

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.

Agree with Stallion. BYU has seemed to fade over the last couple of years and watching them it doesn't appear they have the top notch talent (overall) that they once possessed.

It seems they are a bit slower and not as talented in the skilled positions as they were a few years ago.

One wonders if the lack of conference hurts recruiting.
