UNLV Proposes New 60K Stadium w/ 100 Yard Jumbotron
File this under possible #goBigEast future conference mates:
http://www.lostlettermen.com/100-yard-s ... v-stadium/
UNLV’s football program isn’t letting the fact that the Rebels haven’t made a bowl since 2000 prevent them from having Texas-sized ambitions when it comes to the construction of a new stadium.
The school’s 60,000-seat stadium proposal features a ridiculous 100-yard-long video screen. That’s 40 yards longer than the behemoth currently hanging from the beams above Cowboys Stadium.
In an interview with the Las Vegas Sun, project lead Don Snyder called the proposed screen the "world’s largest multimedia immersive experience" while adding, "This project is a game changer for UNLV and Las Vegas. It’s an important and significant project for the state as well. It’s the next big thing."
UNLV coaches no doubt hope that will count for something on the recruiting trail.

PAC12 would never invite UNLV, but they should be part of a western BE strategy that helps lock in SDSU FB and, perhaps BB too. Even NM would give strong BB, which helps everyone, plus a FB team with lots of upside, like UNLV.couch 'em wrote:PAC invite. So UNLV UH SMU and ?
Imagine a string of SW FB and BB teams from Dallas/Houston to Albuquerque to Las Vegas to San Diego to make BE attractive for the media with cities of decent size and larger fan/alum bases.

They already have this dream fairy-tale of a conference... It even has Boise St to strengthen football program as icing on the cake. They call it the Mountain West Conference. Once SMU, Houston, Memphis, and Tulsa join, you are looking pretty good in football and Basketball. Now once you realize that Uconn and Cincy will be gone from the Big East either way, reality can set and then you will see that MWC is the end game.Water Pony wrote:PAC12 would never invite UNLV, but they should be part of a western BE strategy that helps lock in SDSU FB and, perhaps BB too. You guys are crazy if you think UNLV would be building such a stadium to get into the destitute MWC or the soon to be totally gutted again BE.

The BE would need to totally emplode at some time in the future for this scenario to be even a remote possibility. SMU has bet its athletic and national brand on the eastern 3/4's of the country.WE ARE BACK wrote:They already have this dream fairy-tale of a conference... Building such a stadium will make zero difference to the PAC12. UNLV has justified it on entertainment, other non-FB events and/or a Final Four. For the Running Rebels football, it will only be used by the MWC or BE.couch 'em wrote:You guys are crazy if you think UNLV would be building such a stadium to get into the destitute MWC or the soon to be totally gutted again BE.

They're the crazy ones if they think a new stadium is going to make them a legit option for a Big 4 conference.
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Exactly. UNLV will never been an option for either PAC12 or the BigXII. But, for the MWC and, possibly, the BE, a strong destination due to the new stadium and the lights of the Vegas Strip with all its visitors and citizens.sbsmith wrote:couch 'em wrote:You guys are crazy if you think UNLV would be building such a stadium to get into the destitute MWC or the soon to be totally gutted again BE.

By any definition and alternative, better than ours, which isn't saying much. There are high schools with a better pools than SMU

It doesn't MAKE them a target, it is a sign that they (market) may be a target. They would not build that to go to BE or MWC. Come on. Now if PAC said "we want you, upgrade your facilities" it makes sense.
